Did the new Lanterns teaser get taken down a 2nd time? Here’s what we know about the DCU controversy

Bad news for the fans of DC as the teaser of Lanterns has been pulled out for the second time from DC and HBO’s YouTube and other social media accounts. Warner Brothers pulled it from HBO as well as their social media accounts because of copyright issues. I think there is hope that it will return once the issue is resolved. A similar situation happened with the teaser of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

DC took down the trailer of this series from most of its official pages. The decision sparked heavy speculation among fans and added to the backlash over the trailer’s color choices and tone. The TV show stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as John and Hal.

Kelly MacDonald, Jason Ritter, Garret Dillahunt, Ulrich Thomsen, Nicole Ari Parker and Nathan Fillion appear in this show as the supporting cast. The story of Lanterns is inspired by Slow Horses and True Detective and aims for a more grounded take on the DC world compared to 2025’s Superman.

Why has the Lanterns teaser been taken down?

LANTERNS teaser is gone again💀

Chris Mundy, Tom King and Damon Lindelof’s DC series was pulled from HBO and DC’s social media accounts and YouTube channel due to a copyright issue of using the Bruce Springsteen song, State Trooper, owned by Sony Music. A new trailer has appeared online and displays that the series will release on August 16.

Fans spotted what looks like a revised upload that is now being shared through a DCU fan account on X. A Reddit threat claimed that the trailer was first posted on DC’s official YouTube channel. However, it is no longer available there. The YouTube link shows that the video is private. The first teaser only mentioned an August release, but the new trailer highlighted a clear August 16 date.

What DC fans are saying about taking down the new teaser for the second time?

The teaser of Lanterns has been taken down for the second time because HBO, DC, or Warner Bros have not yet confirmed the date. It is possible that the release date shown was not correct.

Some people replied to the post on X by Everything_DCU. A fan, Adedayo, said:

“Marketing team: Let’s be controversial as possible”

Another fan on X, DC Patrioit, replied:

“Best way to pump views”

The new trailer replaced State Trooper with music that sounded more like a piece of the show’s background score. That gives a clear reason why the first teaser was taken down from official pages. It may also explain why the new trailer was removed so quickly.

A Reddit user, Conscious-Bat-9739, said:

“I’m sure they are redoing the entire color scheme of the show because of a loud minority of online losers judging something they haven’t seen yet.”

The series might turn out fine, but it could be so much stronger if studios hired people who truly understand the material. Instead, they often call in friends who soften the story until it loses its edge. If Hollywood keeps working this way, it will collapse under its own narrow circle.
