Why T.I. is pushing to dismiss Sabrina Peterson’s claim

The legal dispute between T.I. and entrepreneur Sabrina Peterson dates back to 2021, when Peterson publicly accused the rapper of threatening her with a gun. T.I. and his wife, Tiny Harris, denied the allegations. Peterson then filed a lawsuit against the couple, raising claims of defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Over time, most of those claims were dismissed. Peterson was also ordered to pay more than $96,000 in legal fees, adding financial pressure to an already drawn-out fight.

The Instagram video

The one claim still standing centers on an Instagram video T.I. posted in July 2025. In it, he urged followers not to spread lies and to mind their business. Peterson says the post was directed at her and caused her emotional harm.

T.I.’s legal team disagrees. They argue the video never mentions Peterson by name, does not tag her, and contains no direct reference to her. They also point out that only a small number of commenters linked the video to Peterson, even though the post received tens of thousands of interactions.

T.I. files his own lawsuit

In December 2024, T.I. took his own legal action, filing a federal defamation lawsuit against Peterson. He accused her of falsely claiming on social media that he was under federal investigation for sex trafficking. Peterson filed counterclaims, but most of those have since been dismissed.

The emotional distress allegation is now the last issue before the court.

What comes next

A judge has not yet ruled on T.I.‘s motion to dismiss. If the motion is granted, Peterson’s final claim would be thrown out, potentially ending the legal battle altogether. If denied, the case continues.

The outcome will carry weight for both sides. For T.I., a dismissal would close a dispute that has followed him publicly for years. For Peterson, losing the remaining claim would mark the end of a legal effort that has cost her significantly, both financially and otherwise.
