Why fans still can’t move on from the K-drama

You don’t forget Lovely Runner. You just learn to live with it.

The K-drama premiered two years ago in April 2024, and it still stays with people in the smallest, unexpected ways. A song comes on, a scene pops into your head, or a line suddenly hits you again. It’s not the kind of drama you finish and move on from.

The story about Ryu Sun-jae and Im-sol slowly pulls you in without you realizing how attached you’ve become. The time-slip plot is one of the best parts of the K-drama as it keeps viewers hooked to the story, making them wonder what’s next in Im-sol’s journey and whether she will be able to save her love.

There are themes of hope, desire, and love throughout the K-drama that will stay with you long after you have finished watching it. Therefore, there is nothing about the story that seems to be random, and every single moment of the K-drama is significant. That may also explain why it has been difficult for the viewers and fans to move on from it.

So let’s explore more about Lovely Runner below!

Today marks the second anniversary of the fan-favorite K-drama, Lovely Runner featuring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon as the titular couple. It aired on tvN and also came out on Viki and became a massive cultural phenomenon

So, here are the top reasons why Lovely Runner feels impossible to forget, drawn from fan reflections, reviews and its lasting impact:

1) Heart-melting romance with unforgettable chemistry

At its heart, the K-drama is about a kind of love that refuses to give up. After realizing the tragic fate of her idol, Im-sol goes back in time to meet Sun-jae and then their relationship grows during different stages.

She does everything to keep him safe and make sure he knows that there’s someone who cares about him. Her love for him is endless and their chemistry also feels effortless to watch. That’s why, even a small scene like Im-sol holding the yellow umbrella for Sun-jae is still stuck in fans’ minds.

2) Emotional rollercoaster done right

The K-drama does not stick with just one mood. There’s laughter, tears, and heartbreak in the story that feel natural. One moment you’re laughing at Sol’s chaotic fangirl behavior, and the next moment you’re in tears to see how much she’s doing to save Sun-jae, without him knowing her pain.

Then there’s also a darker side with the suspense and danger. The taxi driver, Kim Young-so is fixated on taking revenge on Im-sol and Ryu Sun-jae, which forces the two to always stay alert. Even the sad or bittersweet parts don’t feel pointless as they add meaning and make the overall story more satisfying.

3) Iconic and soul-stirring OST that keeps the memory alive

The soundtrack of Lovely Runner is legendary. Songs like Sudden Shower (Sonaki), Like a Dream, Run Run, and more by the fictional boy-band ECLIPSE evoke instant nostalgia. The most memorable part is when Ryu Sun-jae performs Sudden Shower, and the fan-girl Im-sol is out, listening to his voice during snowfall. With OST and songs so good, how can fans forget the K-drama?

Time-travelling stories often get confusing. But in Lovely Runner, the execution is so good that you can easily catch up with the timeline. Im-sol and Sun-jae meet during different timelines like school, college and adulthood without losing clarity.

Im-sol is focused on making Sun-jae feel loved, and in return she receives the same care from him. Initially, it looked like Sun-jae might not fall for her easily. But when he realizes his feelings, he does everything to remember her in every timeline.

5) Breakout performance by Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon

Byeon Woo-seok’s sincere and charming portrayal of Sun-jae turned him into a global star. He became so popular that fans came up with “Sun Jae syndrome” which means an obsession with a character that cannot be explained.

And after two years of Lovely Runner, Byeon is set to return to the screen with his upcoming K-drama, Perfect Crown alongside IU. Just one day more, and the new K-drama will hit Disney+ for global fans and the MBC TV channel in South Korea.

As for Kim Hye-yoon, she also rose to popularity, and fans started to wish for a real relationship between her and Byeon Woo-seok. The actress did an amazing job in playing Im-sol with humor and emotions that feel real. She recently starred in No Tail to Tell K-drama alongside Lomon.
