Who’s playing Ser Edger of Coldmoat in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2? Here’s what the reports say

The cast information for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 currently seems to get better and better. Earlier today, Redanian Intelligence, which is among the most respected and well-established fan outlets covering the Game of Thrones franchise, announced through the X platform that actor Steven Hartley will play Edger of Coldmoat in the forthcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2. The post is already attracting a good amount of audience attention that seems to follow the storyline update of the show closely.

The photo of Hartley was released by the Redanian Intelligence X account with an accompanying announcement stating that Hartley will be playing the role of Ser Edger of Coldmoat in the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2.

There has been no listing of the character’s role or extent in the first season. The term “Coldmoat” will have significant value for anyone who has read the books that inspired the show, and it was the name of the castle of Lady Rohanne Webber. She is the major central character in the season that will be adapted from the book.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will be adapted from The Sworn Sword, which is the second novella in The Dunk and Egg series by George R.R. Martin. It will consist of six episodes. The premiere has been predicted to air on HBO and HBO Max in 2027. Hartley joins a season that has already been quietly building an outstanding cast around the two returning leads.

Who Is Steven Hartley?

Steven Hartley is a familiar name among UK TV viewers, and they may recognize him instantly, even if they are unsure of the show that he is from. Hartley was born and raised in Yorkshire and attended the London Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts, where he trained between 1981 and 1984. His career has included many mediums over four decades, including television, film, theater, and voice acting.

He landed his first major television role as Matthew Jackson in EastEnders (1987) when the show had a weekly viewership of nearly 20 million. Since then, Hartley has built up quite an impressive resume of work on television, ranging from his substantial parts in EastEnders to other television series, such as Silent Witness, the first 3 seasons of the Sky comedy Brassic, Shadow and Bone (Netflix), and All Creatures Great and Small, as well as Grace, along with all of the other television shows that he has worked on to date. In addition to his work on television, Hartley has appeared in such projects as Alexander: The Making of A God (2024), Death in Paradise, a Christmas special, and many more.

In addition to being a highly accomplished voice actor, Hartley has recorded well over 20 video game character voices, most notably the character of Eredin, King of the Wild Hunt, from the widely successful fantasy video game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as most highly passionate fans of fantasy will know him. With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms being a fantasy series, it is very interesting that Hartley, who has spent most of his acting career predominantly playing in the fantasy genre, is now portraying a character from George Martin’s Westeros in this series.

What do we know about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 so far?

Hartley is one of several new names that have been added to the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 cast in recent months. HBO confirmed back in early March that Lucy Boynton has been cast as Lady Rohanne of Coldmoat, the Red Widow, while Babou Ceesay joins as Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, and Peter Mullan takes on the role of Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast. All three join returning stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg.

The bitter rivalry between two neighboring houses caught in the middle of a brutal drought and the resulting water rights dispute between Lady Rohanne Webber of Coldmoat and Ser Eustace Osgrey is at the center of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, into which Dunk and Egg are drawn into the conflict. It might be that Ser Edger of Coldmoat, whom Hartley will portray, has a direct connection to Lady Rohanne’s faction within this series and is thereby directly tied to the storyline of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2.

Showrunner Ira Parker has indicated that the idea of loyalty, and perhaps more specifically what happens when someone blindly follows the idea of loyalty, will be at the heart of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, and with six episodes to tell this story, there is ample room to explore this theme, as evidenced by the casting of actors like Hartley.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 began filming in December 2025, and it is anticipated that the show will premiere on HBO in 2027.
