Who is Megan Thee Stallion in Moulin Rouge? Rapper exits the Broadway musical amid Klay Thompson breakup

Megan Thee Stallion plays the role of Zilder in the Broadway show Moulin Rouge. The Grammy winning rapper is scheduled to perform her final show in the Broadway musical on May 1, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

In a statement, Thee Stallion opened up about her exit, and said,

“It’s been such an honor to be part of Moulin Rouge and I’ve met so manu amazing people in this theater. Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work.”

She went on to add,

“Every single person at the Moulin Rouge has inspired me to go harder as an entertainer. I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful. Y’all are really some of the kindest human beings I’ve ever met! To all the Hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey!”

While Megan has not revealed the reason behind her exit, this comes after the rapper fell ill during a showing of the musical and was hospitalized in New York City in early April. Megan was part of an eight week theatre program which began on March 24 and was set to end on May 17. However, most recently, it was announced that the musical show was extended five weeks with a finale performance on August 30.

A replacement for the rapper is yet to be announced.

Megan Thee Stallion became the first female-identifying performer to take on the role of Zidler. The role of Zidler originated in 2019 by Danny Burstein. Megan’s exit comes amid her breakup from Klay Thompson. Megan and Thompson started dating in July 2025. In an April 25 statement, Megan while speaking to E! News announced her breakup, saying,

“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay. Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward.”

The rapper also stated that she’s taking her time to “prioritze” herself and “move ahead with peace and clarity.”

While Megan Thee Stallion has officialy revealed a reason behind the split, she had accused the NBA star of cheating on her Instagram story. Klay is yet to publicly address the split.
