Who is Malchemical in The Boys Season 5? Powers and origins explored

The Boys Season 5 episode 5 was a highly anticipated episode because it features a reunion of Jensen Ackles with his Supernatural co-stars, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. The episode does reunite the three leading characters from Supernatural in new roles, and Misha Collins plays Malchemical, who, for a second, seems like someone who can effectively attack Homelander, but is killed by Soldier Boy.

As The Boys Season 5 episode 5 tells us, Malchemical is a Supe with the power to emit a toxic gas that knocks out people, irrespective of whether they are a human or a fellow Supe. Here’s more about his powers and origins.

Everything we know about Malchemical from The Boys Season 5

Malchemical, introduced in The Boys Season 5 episode 5, is a Supe, and like all other ones, was created by Compound V. Shortly after his birth, his parents accepted money from Vought and agreed to inject him with Compound V, giving him powers. We have seen Supe powers of all kinds, and Malchemical’s power is that he can emit a toxic green gas from his mouth, which can knock out not only human beings but also other supes. He also has superhearing powers like many other supes. While this is the first time we have seen him, it is not the first time the show has mentioned him or included him in the storyline.

He served in Super Duper, a second-tier supe team that wasn’t that successful. He also had a confrontation with Frenchie a few years back, as Grace Malory had mentioned, while Frenchie was in custody in 2014. Later, Malchemical shifted to work in entertainment. At the premiere party of Dawn of the Seven, Malchemical was hired as the DJ. Despite having powers and being considered to be added to The Seven back in Season 4, Malchemical never really made it to the top.

Malchemical is seen in The Boys Season 5 episode 5, and along with Mr. Marathon, wants Homelander killed. Like The Boys, they too are done with Homelander’s fascist regime, and since they know they can’t kill him, they hatch a plan. Malchemical knocks off Homelander with his toxic green gas, and then he and Mr. Marathon try to convince Soldier Boy to blast Homelander to kill him. But they aren’t successful, and Soldier Boy kills Malchemical instead by breaking his neck.

Thus, while Malchemical could knock out Homelander for a while, and it seemed he might have some strong powers, he couldn’t exactly kill him, which is why he and Mr. Marathon had to try to convince Soldier Boy to do the deed. But this shows how much more powerful Homelander is than most other supes, and how difficult it is going to be to kill him. Soldier Boy and Ryan are the only ones who remotely stand a chance against him as far as superpowers are concerned. Mr. Marathon doesn’t make it out alive from that encounter either. After Homelander gains consciousness, he stomps on Mr. Marathon’s head and kills him.

The Boys Season 5 episode 5 featuring Malchemical, along with Mr. Marathon, is streaming on Prime Video. Episode 6 will be released on Prime Video on May 6, 2026.
