The Boy Meets World family has lost one of their beloved members. David Kendall, who directed, executive produced, and wrote the show, has passed away on May 2, 2026, at the age of 68.
Kendall was not just an important person to his family, and his friends at Boy Meets World, but had helped shaped several other shows and mentored many actors. Here’s looking at his legacy and how the ones who knew him, are honouring him.
Boy Meets World cast members pay tribute to David Kendall
Boy Meets World premiered in 1993 on ABC, and aired till 2000. The cast and crew of the show have thus known each other for over thirty years, and are still close. Will Friedle, Rider Strong, and Danielle Fishel paid their tributes too along with Shawn Hunter and Topanga Lawrence.
Friedle, Strong, and Fishel, through the podcast, paid tribute to David Kendall, who wrote, directed, and executive produced the show upon his demise. On Instagram, the podcast’s post’s caption began with,
“To say that David Kendall was instrumental in the creation of Boy Meets World would be an understatement. He directed, wrote and executive produced our show, but also helped mold some of TV’s most memorable sitcoms, from Growing Pains to Hannah Montana.”
Apart from Boy Meets World, Hannah Montana, and Growing Pains, Kendall was behind creating many shows.
He has executive produced, directed, and written shows like Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love, Kelly Kelly, and Melissa & Joey. He also directed Steppin’ Into the Holiday, iCarly, Jonas, and Victorious, among other projects.
The Pod Meets World post highlighted how Kendall didn’t just mentor the young cast of Boy Meets World, but was also an extremely important figure who mentored stars like Zendaya, the Jonas Brothers, Austin Butler, and Miley Cyrus when they had started out.
It is not easy to lose a friend, that too someone you have known for decades. Thus, the cast and crew of the show are mourning their beloved friend, colleague, and mentor, and hope that the viewers will remember Kendall and his work.
Through the podcast, its members also hope to share Kendall’s personality with all their listeners. The Pod Meets World post honouring David Kendall ended with the podcast’s members saying,
“We have lost a vital piece of our family – but we ask that the next time you watch the show, especially Seasons 2 & 3 (when he served as Showrunner), you think of our beloved Kendall. We love you, David. Rest in peace. No notes.”
The show was created by Michael Jacobs and April Kelly. Besides David Kendall, the executive producers of the show were Michael Jacobs, Bob Young, Howard Busgang, Mark Blutman, Bob Tischler, and Steven Derek Booth. The show was produced collaboratively by Michael Jacobs Productions and Touchstone Television.
