The Crash documentary is about the July 2022 incident in Strongsville, Ohio, involving then-17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla. According to investigators, Shirilla was driving with her boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan after leaving a graduation party when the vehicle crashed into a commercial building at extremely high speed.
Russo and Davion died right after the accident happened, while Shirilla survived after sustaining serious injuries. When the investigation began, prosecutors argued that the collision had been deliberate rather than accidental.
Evidence that was presented in this case included driving data, text messages, surveillance footage and even claims about previous threats. It was also revealed that Shirilla and Russo were in a relationship and they seemed to like each other a lot. This is what viewers will also see in the Netflix documentary.
As for the defense, they argued that a medical emergency or loss of consciousness might have resulted in Shirilla losing control and crashing into a building. In the end, Shirilla was convicted on multiple felony charges, including murder counts and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
