When will Half Man Episode 5 premiere? Preview, cast, what to expect and more

Half Man Episode 5 will air on HBO on May 21. The upcoming episode is the penultimate entry of the Richard Gadd-created and starring six-part British drama series, which will set the stage for the finale, scheduled to air on May 28.

Gadd’s latest series explores the complicated ties between Niall and Ruben, two estranged brothers who are not related by blood. While Ruben is fiercely loyal, Niall is gentle and quiet. The series employs flashbacks and time jumps to explore the brothers’ shared history, who finally reunite at Niall’s wedding, where a sudden act of violence pushes them to the edge.

Half Man stars Emmy-winning Scottish actor and comedian Richard Gadd (Netflix’s Baby Reindeer) and BAFTA Award-winning English actor Jamie Bell (The Adventures of Tintin) as adult versions of Ruben Pallister and Niall Kennedy, respectively. The additional ensemble also includes Stuart Campbell, Mitchell Robertson, Neve McIntosh, Charlie De Melo, Anjli Mohindra and Amy Manson.

A preview for Half Man Episode 5

The official synopsis for the upcoming episode reads as follows:

Niall and Ava face major life changes as Ruben struggles with his relationship. An impulsive choice between Mona and Niall has serious consequences for all involved.

Now that Half Man is in its final stretch, the upcoming entry will naturally focus on the adult lives of Niall and Ruben, leading to the former’s marriage. The previous episode explored the complicated ties between the estranged brothers, two years after Ruben was released from prison. Niall spiraled after realizing that while his own life had fallen apart, Ruben was flourishing with a six-figure salary, a luxurious home and a happy marriage. This unfair turn of events and the brothers’ cathartic confrontation led to one of the most shocking moments of the episode in the present timeline, when Ruben’s seemingly dead body was wheeled out of the barn.

Half Man Episode 5 will naturally explore the aftermath of Niall and Ruben’s confrontation as the latter demands his money back and asks his brother to spy on his wife Mona. While the truth behind Ruben’s death looms large, Niall’s impulsive decisions suggest that he likely had a hand in his brother’s tragic fate.

Fans can expect an intense & emotionally charged penultimate entry before the finale, which will further explore Ruben and Niall’s complicated ties and their shared history.

Tune in to Half Man Episode 5 on HBO Max on May 21.
