What is Christmas Jumper Day?

Christmas Jumper Day is an annual fundraising event organised by Save the Children.

People across the nation are encouraged to wear festive jumpers to work, school and social gatherings – as well as making a donation to support children in need.

Christmas Jumper Day combines fun and charity, promoting festive spirit while raising vital funds for children facing war, hunger and poverty.

As the charity’s website says: “This is your VIP invite to the UK’s most spectacular Christmas party!

“Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day is back – and you don’t want to miss out.

“Sign up with your workplace, school, community or friend group and join millions of people getting silly for a seriously good cause with Save the Children.

“You get to have fun, commit some crimes against fashion, and create lasting change for children with your donation – how often do you get to say that?!”

The first official Christmas Jumper Day took place in 2012.

Since then it has grown massively, with millions of participants every Christmastime.

Over the years, the campaign has raised more than £40million, supporting children in the UK and in over 100 countries worldwide.

On last year’s event, Save the Children explained: “In 2024 you raised an absolutely amazing £2.8million to help children change their futures for good.

“That’s the equivalent of 1,400,000 packets of drought resistant seeds to help families in Kenya adapt to the effects of climate change.

“[Or] 280,000 supermarket vouchers to give children in the UK the brain fuel they need to thrive.

“[Or] 77,777 baby kits, helping families in Gaza provide basic care for their newborns.”
