A hotel lobby reportedly revealed to the outlet that the pair is “so in love” while talking about their speculated bethrothal.

“From what I understand, it was a private engagement. They are over the moon, and from what I hear, so in love!”
Sam Smith and Christian Cowan have yet to respond to the engagement rumors.
Sam Smith and Christian Cowan: A timeline of their relationship
Sam Smith and Christian Cowan stared dating sometime between late 2022 and early 2023.
In December 2022, they were spotted together at the White House while President Joe Biden was signing the Respect for Marriage Act into law. This law protects the right to marry for people in same-sex and interracial relationships.
They were both seen together once more in January 2023, as tattoo artist MJ posted a picture with Smith and Cowan, along with a picture of the tattoo that MJ gave Smith. MJ even added in his caption:
“At first I didn’t believe it when I got an email saying that Sam Smith would like a tattoo from me. Even on the day I thought it was just a hoax. One of my proudest moments as a tattoo artist! Thank you, and it was lovely meeting you.”

In the same month, the Lay Me Down hitmaker was photographed holding hands with the designer. In addition, paparazzi caught sight of the couple kissing as they walked around SoHo.
Later in the month, Sam Smith was spotted at the Christian Cowan fashion show at New York Fashion Week. Moreover, they went to see Some Like It Hot at Broadway.
Fast forward to June that year, the two were once again spotted holding hands in public. They also attended the Pride March in New York City, where they were also caught sharing a kiss.
In May 2024, Sam Smith and Christian Cowan made their Met Gala debut, which also marked the Unholy singer’s first time attending in ten years. Smith wore a black ensemble, a contrast to Cowan’s all-white garb.
However, one noticeable thing about their appearance was their matching red roses, dipped in gold and silver, pinned on their coats.

Cowan explained to Vogue the meaning behind the flower.
“I gravitated toward the English rose, something celebrating both Sam and I’s heritage. The roses are, in fact, real red roses, then dipped into solid 24-carat gold and sterling silver. These roses then skewer through the tailoring, forming as a closure.”
At the time, Smith shared with the publication how it feels like wearing his beau’s clothes.
“I always feel beautiful whenever I wear Christian’s clothes, both inside and out. Tonight’s is a particularly perfect fit.”
