When did Denise Richards date Patrick Muldoon? Details explored as actress writes heartfelt tribute following Muldoon’s death

Denise Richards has shared a heartfelt tribute to her ex and friend Patrick Muldoon following his death. On Sunday, the Starship Troopers actor passed away at the age of 57, suffering a heart attack. On April 21, Richards posted an emotional post on her Instagram remembering the late star. She posted a photo montage showing pictures from the days when they were dating.

Denise Richards and Patrick Muldoon began dating in the latter half of the 90s. As per Us Weekly, the two met on the set of Starship Troopers, which started filming in 1997. They began dating after the movie came out in 1998. The pair reportedly parted ways in 2000. In a 2019 episode of the RHOBH, Richards revealed that she and Muldoon “were on and off for quite a few years.” The two turned into good friends following their split.

However, the friendship came to a halt after Denise Richards married Charlie Sheen in 2002. During an episode of Denise Richards & Her Wild Things, the reality star recalled the time and said:

“I did not speak to Pat when I was married to Charlie. And it was hard, because I didn’t want to lose him as a friend. But toward the end of the marriage, I talked to him all the time about him.”

Richards later married Aaron Phypers, who seemingly had no problem with the friendship between his wife and Patrick Muldoon. The actress even praised Phypers for respecting her bond with the late actor. Muldoon even attended Richards and Pypers’ 2018 wedding. Despite disconnecting romantically, the two continued to refer to each other as “schweetbabe.”

In her Instagram letter, Richards mourned the death of her friend and said she was “heartbroken & devastated.” In her message, the actress called Patrick Muldoon her “best friend” and “family.” She revisited the time they met for the first time.

“We met in our first acting class, I was 19 never had an acting job and you were 21 a student at USC doing a recurring role on who’s the boss. And here we are. 36 years later. My whole adult life & I don’t know it without you. The friendship, love, support, respect & loyalty we had was unconditional and rare. You lit up every room you walked into. You are larger than life & Everyone was drawn to you.”

Denise Richards further called Patrick Muldoon talented and “most underrated actor.” She praised her late friend’s humility, kindness, and other virtues. Richards further recollected how Muldoon always supported her.

“You’ve had my back and protected me more than anyone. I don’t know what I’m going to do without you here. You’re my voice of reason & pillar of strength. Especially during this last year of pain & heartache. And now I need you more than ever, for this pain and heartache losing you. Schweetbabe we’ve had those conversations..
