Aubrey Plaza revealed her pregnancy last April, months after her romance with Chris Abbott began making headlines in 2025.
At the time, a representative for the Damsel in Distress star confirmed the wonderful news after an insider revealed to People:
“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year, they feel very blessed.”
The source added that the actress is due this fall.
Aubrey Plaza also confirmed her pregnancy in an episode of the Smartless podcast, days after the first report.
“Well, there’s a baby inside of me. No, I said there is a baby inside of me right now.”
The Playing It Cool actress also expressed her excitement about the forthcoming birth of her first child, sharing:
“I am. Yeah. I’ve always wanted, I’ve always wanted, I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know? It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”
Aubrey Plaza on navigating grief after husband Jeff Baena’s death
Before dating Chris Abbott, Aubrey Plaza was married to filmmaker Jeff Baena. They were together for ten years and married for five, and were also creative partners.
However, the pair reportedly began experiencing marital conflicts from September 2024, which led them to part ways.
Aubrey Plaza moved to New York City, leaving him behind in Los Angeles. However, both maintained close communication through telephone calls.
In January 2025, Jeff Baena passed away at his residence. An autopsy report by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later confirmed the cause of death as suicide.
In an August 2025 episode of the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, Plaza shared with her Parks and Recreation co-star how she was navigating her grief months after her husband’s death.
“Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world… But it’s a daily struggle, obviously.”
The actress compared her sorrow to the 2025 film, The Gorge, calling it a “dumb analogy” at first, but she continued explaining:
“It’s like [an] alien movie or something with Miles Teller. In the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side, and there’s a cliff on the other side, then there’s gorge in between, and it’s filled with all these, like, monster people that are trying to get them.”
