Truth blurs as a ghost’s accusation turns Yi-rang into a suspect

In just a few episodes, Phantom Lawyer has become an engaging K-drama with Yoo Yeon-seok playing the lead role. It mixes two major genres: legal drama and fantasy elements when ghosts possess a lawyer during investigations only to seek justice. However, the situations often go out of control and turn into comedic moments.

The story begins with the introduction of Shin Yi-rang, a lawyer who wants to be strong and independent. However, his father’s scandals have damaged his reputation, due to which he has been rejected from big legal firms.

After facing rejections, Yi-rang decides to open his own small firm and work as a lawyer. Little did he know that the place he chose was connected to spirits. When they learn that a lawyer is here, these spirits ask Yi-rang to help them get justice.

And as the story begins, chaos and comedic moments also take place. In the latest episode, the lawyer takes on a new case and ends up getting arrested by the end.

A detailed recap below.

Phantom Lawyer episode 5 recap: A ghost refuses reality and a new case

Episode 5 of Phantom Lawyer features Yi-rang’s meeting with an unusual spirit, one who does not react like most ghosts he has encountered during his work. Rather than accept that they have died, the spirit attempts to rationally explain the situation using logical reasoning.

His scientific background leads him to analyze rather than fear or feel confused about his current situation. Even when he establishes temporary control over Yi-rang’s body, he continues to treat it as a problem needing to be solved instead of a supernatural gift.

However, this refusal to accept reality will not last long. After a short time, he begins to realize that something is not right as he cannot physically interact with humans in any way. That realization in Phantom Lawyer episode 5 forces him to accept the painful truth that he is no longer alive.

Once his memories return, his identity becomes clear: he is Sang-ho, a respected scientist with a family. The complexity of this situation increases when he claims that his wife killed him. That is the basis of the conflict between Yi-rang and Na-hyeon.

Yi-rang believes that he wants justice on behalf of the spirit of Sang-ho but Na-hyeon is taking a different approach. She only believes in solid evidence, not claims that are supernatural.

Emotions complicate Sang-ho as well. Even though he accuses his wife, he does not want her to suffer severe consequences for murdering him. He states that he has not been a good partner.

Phantom Lawyer episode 5 recap and ending explained: Hidden truths and Yi-rang becoming a suspect

As episode 5 of Phantom Lawyer continues, the case becomes hard to solve. Yi-rang could not wait any longer and began independently searching for Sang-ho’s body so he could discover the truth about what really happened. Meanwhile, the legal side of the case took an unexpected turn when Sang-ho’s wife changed her plea.

She declared that she is guilty of the crime and is taking full responsibility for it. While this confession seems to close the case quickly, it actually creates more confusion. It feels too simple, making it hard to believe that the full truth has come out.

Na-hyeon, who already doubts Yi-rang’s claims about ghosts, starts to lose patience with him. She finally confronts him strongly, thinking he is interfering rather than helping.

Later, Yi-rang manages to find the dead body, which gives him hope to solve the problem. However, his own discovery puts him in danger when Do-gyeong sees the situation and uses it to cast suspicion on Yi-rang.

This will make him look like a suspect. On the other side, it’s revealed that Sang-ho had issues with his father-in-law. By the end of the episode Sang-ho once again takes over Yi-rang’s body and tries to harm his father-in-law which forces the police to step in.

And everything flips for Yi-rang at the end of episode 5 of Phantom Lawyer. Instead of being the one trying to solve the case, he is now treated as a suspect and taken into custody.
