The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 titled Fast Andy aired on ABC on January 13. The second episode of the new season saw major changes in the Mid-Wilshire division of the LAPD. After Grey accepted Matthew’s offer to work with the multi-agency team, Tim Bradford was promoted to interim Watch Commander and Lucy Chen returned to the day shift, taking her boyfriend’s position as Sergeant. Earlier, she bid a tearful goodbye to her old apartment and roommate, Celina, and officially moved in with Tim, with Miles taking her place as Celina’s new roommate.
Tim had no time to exchange niceties or to celebrate this win as the task at hand was dangerous. The President was visiting LA and the LAPD had teamed up with the Secret Service to plan out a safe motorcade route and investigate all potential threats along the way.
In The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2, Lucy was tasked with the motorcade route and Nyla & Angela were teamed up to investigate potential threats (with a routine check-up), which took a harrowing turn.

Miles takes a CI in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2
While Tim and the LAPD begin to plan a safe motorcade route, Miles is given an important task by Nolan to find and raise his first CI. The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 gets challenging for Miles as he is asked to carefully choose a CI and convince them to partner with him without promising risky immunities. After Nolan rejects many of Miles’ CI choices, the latter settles on Fast Andy, a man with many connections but little skill.
While Nolan is unsure about Fast Andy, Miles is determined to raise him as his CI. Miles’ conversation with Andy goes well but he promises to give him a free pass for some minor crimes when Nolan is on the phone, finalising him as his first CI. However, things go haywire when Nolan finds Andy on the news. Andy just broke into a pharmacy claiming that he has ‘immunity’. As Andy calls Miles to get him out of this predicament, Nolan’s warnings start to make sense to him.
Tim Bradford pulls off double duty in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2
The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 was especially challenging for Tim Bradford, who was not only the interim Watch Commander but it was also his first day at work as Lucy’s boyfriend. While the couple had set boundaries, Tim stayed up late at night to bring Lucy food while she planned a new route for the mission.
Elsewhere, Nyla and Angela’s routine check-in turns pivotal when they reach Jerry Hudson’s house, which was equipped with an arsenal and a sniper rifle. After the duo is convinced that Jerry is planning an attack on the President, they visit his ex-girlfriend Phoebe, who reveals that Jerry has OCD and extreme paranoia. Ever since his previous stint with the CIA went wrong, he was convinced that killing the President was the only way he could exact revenge. The team learns that Jerry was involved in a car accident in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 and Celina is the first to arrive. However, Jerry attacks the nurse and flees from the scene, forcing Nolan and the team to spring into action.
Later, Tim learns about the Fast Andy situation and scolds both Nolan and Miles. The Fast Andy fiasco forces Grey to return to his Watch Commander position, which seems like a failure to Tim.
Nolan and team save the day in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2
With Jerry still on the loose and the President about to land in LA, Tim and Lucy begin rerouting traffic and clearing the path. Things take a turn in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 when Nyla realizes that Jerry’s badly worded threats, ie, Feebs, are for his ex-girlfriend Phoebe and not the FBI as they initially thought. Nyla and Lopez leave for Phoebe’s factory but they are late as Jerry is already there.
However, Nolan arrives on the scene and is quick to shoot Jerry on the shoulder, saving Phoebe in the process. With Jerry behind bars, the President’s visit was a success and Tim and Lucy concluded the episode by unwinding together after a hectic day.
