The release included the track’s music video (MV), in which the singer dances inside the premises of the Palace of Versailles. This new single’s music video has generated reactions online.
Some netizens found the video and the song corny, while others thought the song was being influenced by artists such as Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter. There were other reactions as well, with some comments praising the singer for the video and the song.

The music video has been directed by Petra Collins and currently has more than 1,700,000 views on YouTube. drop dead is the first single from Olivia Rodrigo’s upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which is currently set to be released on June 12, 2026, via Geffen Records. The song was co-written by Olivia Rodrigo and singer-songwriter Amy Allen.

Olivia Rodrigo’s upcoming album will be her third studio album. The album is being produced by Dan Nigro, who has also produced for artists such as Caroline Polachek, Reneé Rapp, and Lorde. Nigro also produced Rodrigo’s previous albums, Sour and Guts. The album will be the singer’s first new album since 2023’s GUTS. It also follows the live album, Live from Glastonbury (A BBC Recording), which was released in December 2025.
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is inspired by the singer’s time in London, which she talked about in an exclusive interview with British Vogue in March 2026:
“I’ve found a lot of inspiration from being in London. I’ve spent so much time here over the course of making this album. It has a lot of songs that are London vibes, about experiences that I’ve had here.”
The upcoming album will be a mix of love songs, specifically love songs that have themes of yearning, fear, and anxiety, as well as separation.
The singer, alongside her solo career, recently also provided the track Can’t Catch Me Now for the film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which was released in 2023. Can’t Catch Me Now was also produced by Dan Nigro, and the music video was directed by Leonn Ward.
