The Young and the Restless star Shemar Moore wants to find a new home for a beloved character

The Young and the Restless is bringing back Shemar Moore as Malcolm Winters next month. But that’s not the only role the actor is bringing to the screen, provided he can find a home for the S.W.A.T. spinoff S.W.A.T. Exiles.

Moore played Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson on S.W.A.T., and now, he’s looking to continue playing the part in S.W.A.T. Exiles, but the spinoff series doesn’t have a broadcast or streaming partner right now.

“We’re in the process of trying to find a platform, whether it be Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO, Max, FX, LG, we don’t know,” the actor told TV Insider.

The series has had some screenings, including one for over 700 buyers. Moore marveled at the caliber of other talent behind shows that are looking for streaming partners. The former Y&R star says he’s seen Tony Award-winning actress and Oscar nominee Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction) promoting a new show. “And then we got this guy, Shemar,” Moore chuckles.

Moore is set to reprise Hondo in the spinoff. New cast members will include Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley (ex-Xander Avant, The Bold and the Beautiful), Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, Ronen Rubenstein (T.K., 9-1-1: Lonestar), and Lenora Crichlow.

Watch for some familiar faces from S.W.A.T. to pop up in the spinoff show, including Jay Harrington (Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay), Patrick S. Esprit (Commander Robert Hicks), and David Lim (Victor Tan). Jerry O’Connell (The Talk) and Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) are set to guest star.

Moore reveals that the spinoff series will both look and feel different. “It’s grittier, it’s darker, it’s smokier,” he says. “I’ve got some new tattoos that I got for my own self and my own life that add to the edge of the character.”

The actor adds that while he’ll still be playing Hondo, he’ll be playing a Hondo who is a little darker. “He’s a little grumpier,” Moore reveals.

While some shows are doing shorter content, Moore adds that installments of S.W.A.T. Exiles will be longer. They won’t be 42 minutes, but rather 53 to 57 minutes in length.

Soap Central will keep Moore’s fans apprised of developments with S.W.A.T. Exiles.
