The Run San Ramon 5K/10K and Independence Day concert return to Central Park for a milestone.
Every Independence Day, communities across the country gather to celebrate with parades, fireworks and family events. In 2026, San Ramon is continuing one of its most beloved traditions as the annual Run San Ramon returns for its milestone 40th anniversary.
Hosted by the City of San Ramon, the event will take place July 4 at Central Park and will feature a full day of activities, beginning with a series of races in the morning and ending with a patriotic concert celebration in the evening.
The event is expected to draw runners, families and local residents looking for a fun and active way to mark both Independence Day and America’s 250th anniversary year.
A 40 year Independence Day tradition
Run San Ramon has become a staple of the city’s Fourth of July festivities over the past four decades.
Participants can choose from several race options designed to accommodate a wide range of ages and fitness levels.
A 5K race through San Ramon.
A 10K race along the city’s paved course.
The Fastest Mile event featuring an out-and-back route.
The courses are designed as paved loops that guide runners through the community while offering a festive atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.
All registered runners will receive a commemorative short sleeve event shirt, a race bib and a participation medal. The races will also be professionally chip timed, allowing competitors to track their official results.
Organizers say the event offers an opportunity for residents to begin the holiday with physical activity before transitioning into the day’s celebrations.
Evening festivities honor America’s 250th anniversary
After the morning races conclude, attention will shift to the evening entertainment lineup.
The city is commemorating America’s 250th anniversary with a concert event that blends patriotic traditions with contemporary music.
The evening begins with a performance from Olympia Fields Brass, whose patriotic selections are expected to set the tone for the holiday gathering.
Following the opening performance, attendees will be treated to a concert by The Cheeseballs, a band known for energetic performances that combine funk, soul and popular hits spanning multiple decades.
The group’s setlist is expected to feature music from:
The 1980s.
The 1990s.
Contemporary chart favorites.
Organizers anticipate a lively atmosphere with opportunities for dancing, singing and community celebration throughout the evening.
Food, drinks and family fun
The event is designed to appeal to visitors of all ages.
Several food trucks will be on site offering a variety of meal and snack options. Beer and wine will also be available for adults attending the concert.
Families are encouraged to bring blankets and gather on the lawn to enjoy the performances. The city hopes the event will provide a relaxed setting where residents can spend time together while celebrating the holiday.
With music, food and outdoor recreation all included in the day’s schedule, organizers are positioning the event as one of San Ramon’s signature summer gatherings.
Parking and event guidelines
To help accommodate the expected crowds, additional parking will be available at Iron Horse Middle School.
City officials have also identified designated areas for ADA parking as well as loading and unloading zones to improve accessibility for attendees.
Guests planning to attend the evening concert should be aware of restrictions regarding viewing areas.
Shade structures, tents and umbrellas will only be permitted at the top ridge and hill areas of the venue. The policy is intended to preserve clear sightlines for concertgoers throughout the event space.
Community celebration continues to grow
As Run San Ramon marks its 40th year, organizers hope the combination of fitness, live entertainment and patriotic celebration will continue attracting participants from across the region.
The event has evolved into more than a race. It has become a community tradition that brings together residents, families and visitors for a full day of activity and celebration.
With races in the morning and live music in the evening, the 2026 edition promises to offer something for everyone while honoring both local tradition and a historic milestone in the nation’s history.
