The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is paced with quite a few sneak peeks into what’s going on at Marvel and one reveal might have revealed something major about another upcoming project from the studio: Daredevil: Born Again. Eagle eyed fans have pointed out that Punisher is not the only character from the show who has made it to the trailer. Zabryna Guevara’s Sheila Rivera makes an appearance too, hinting at a political shake-up inside the MCU.
Rivera was first introduced in Daredevil: Born Again as a sharp and experienced political advisor to Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. She’s an important person in Kingpin’s orbit, and her appearance could mean big things.
In the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, there’s a brief but loaded moment where Spider-Man is handed the key to the city during a public ceremony. Look closer, and it appears to be Sheila Rivera standing there, front and center, presenting the honor and that single shot raises a lot of questions.
If Fisk is still mayor, this scene makes zero sense. In Daredevil: Born Again, he actively criminalizes vigilantes and positions them as threats to New York. A public celebration of Spider-Man would directly contradict his policies, which leads to the obvious theory that something must have changed.
Sheila’s presence at such a high-profile moment suggests a shift in power and now there’s growing speculation that Fisk may no longer be in office by the end of Season 2. Of course, for now, all is speculation and we will certainly know more soon. Spider-Man: Brand New Day drops in July.
More details about Daredevil: Born Again
Hell’s Kitchen isn’t done burning yet as Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 arrives on March 24 on Disney+, dropping weekly with a nine-episode run. After Season 1’s explosive finale, Wilson Fisk tightens his grip on New York, declaring martial law and imprisoning dissidents in a secret offshore facility. From what we can see, the city has fallen.
At the center we have Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, who is forced into a deeper, darker fight as the lines between law and vigilantism blur beyond recognition. Vincent D’Onofrio returns as Fisk, who is now mayor and wields much more power, while other characters like Karen Page and Foggy Nelson will also make an appearance.
Perhaps the most exciting cast announcement is that Jessica Jones is back as Krysten Ritter and fans are excited to see how she will shape up Daredevil’s world.
Daredevil: Born Again is available to stream on Disney+.
