The Little House on the Prairie trailer gives us a glimpse at upcoming struggles at the prairie

The Little House on the Prairie trailer opens with somebody asking Charles Ingalls (played by Luke Bracey) why he moved to the American Midwest, and he answers by saying that it’s because he and his family wanted to start fresh somewhere new. We also see that it was partly because land in the American Midwest was being given away for free, but then later on, Charles points out that there is nothing really free about the land.

It is indeed a new start for the Ingalls family, as the town they move to has no post office, church, or school. Almost everyone who is new in the town has to begin fresh, as we see the Ingalls family’s house being made. While Laura (played by Alice Halsey) and her family try to be friendly to a Native American girl and her father, we understand that the land isn’t exactly free and, as it happened in those times, was taken away from the natives by the settlers.

As we see in the Little House on the Prairie trailer, Charles, being the patriarch of his family, is concerned about how the Native Americans walk into their part of the land often and says,

“I can’t have strangers walking into my house uninvited.”

The man he’s talking to points out that the Native Americans can say the same. After all, settlers and the British government did walk into their territory uninvited. Developed by Rebecca Sonnenshine, the show will follow the Ingalls as they try to figure out a way to co-exist with the Native Americans respectfully. They also have to learn to fight extremely harsh winters, wolves, disease, and fire accidents.

The struggles of trying to build a life in the prairie will make the Ingalls doubt why they moved there and if they made the right choice. But as Caroline Ingalls (played by Crosby Fitzgerald), Laura’s mother, points out, they wouldn’t know if their choice to move to the prairie was a good one or not unless they really try to build a life there.

Little House on the Prairie also stars Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls, Warren Christie as John Edwards, Jocko Sims as Dr. George Tann, Wren Zhawenim Gotts as Good Eagle, Meegwun Fairbrother as Mitchell, and Alyssa Wapanatahk as White Sun, among others.

Rebecca Sonnenshine is the showrunner and an executive producer. Other executive producers of the show are Dana Fox, Joy Gorman Wettels, Susanna Fogel, and Trip Friendly. The production companies behind the show are Friendly Family Productions, Joy Coalition, Anonymous Content, and CBS Studios.

All eight episodes of Little House on the Prairie will be released on Netflix on July 9, 2026.
