Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85, the new Stranger Things spinoff, takes place in between seasons 2 and 3 of the main show, and it points out a major opportunity that the main show had missed during its run. While the main show performed extremely well in all its seasons except the last one, there was one little detail, which, if addressed, could raise the stakes in the story even higher.
In Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85, set in the middle of winter, Dustin points out that the demodogs, their mutations, and other creatures of the Upside Down thrive in the cold. Since the spinoff is cannon, this little detail shows that Stranger Things could have included a winter season, which would make it harder for the Hawkins crew to kill the monsters.
Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85 shows how a winter season could’ve been beveficial for the main show
None of the five seasons of Stranger Things were set in winter. While seasons 1 and 2 were set close to winter, they weren’t set in proper winter. Seasons 3 and 4 were set in warmer weathers, and Season 5 was set right before winter. Given what Dustin revealed in Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, if the main show had done a season in winter, we would’ve seen the demogorgans and demodogs in their most powerful form.
The creatures from Upside Down were already dangerous, no doubt. But if at least one season of the show was set in winter, we could’ve seen a more exciting fight. We could have seen the full potential of these creatures, which would’ve in turn lead to tougher battles and more intense scenes. Besides, this new revelation makes one wonder if the Hawkins crew has a slight advantage because none of the seasons were set in peak winter.
Season 5, which received quite the criticism for being underwhelming and not having enough action seasons, might have fared better if it were set in winter, making the final battle the most bloody. Fans complained about how the final season essentially did not have as many demogorgans or active fight scenes as were expected. As revealed by Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85, a season set in winter would make the demogorgans and demodogs far more dangerous, giving just the kick fans needed from the final season.
Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85’s voice cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven / Jane Hopper, Luca Diaz as Mike Wheeler, Braxton Quinney as Dustin Henderson, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max Mayfield, Elisha Williams as Lucas Sinclair, Ben Plessala as Will Byers, Odessa A’zion as Nikki Baxter, Brett Gipson as Jim Hopper, Janeane Garofalo as Anna Baxter, Jeremy Jordan as Steve Harrington, Lou Diamond Phillips as Daniel Fischer, Robert Englund as Cosmo, Alysia Reiner as Karen Wheeler, Alessandra Antonelli as Nancy Wheeler, Valeria Rodriguez as Rosario, and Jack Griffo as Jeff.
Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85 is developed by Eric Robles and Jennifer Muro. The show is executive-produced by Eric Robles, The Duffer Brothers, Dan Cohen, Shawn Levy, and Hilary Leavitt. The production companies behind the show are Upside Down Pictures, 21 Laps Entertainment, and Flying Bark Productions.
