Fans have eagerly been anticipating Steve Burton’s return to General Hospital as Jason Morgan. Now, we have news as to when that date will be, along with what viewers can expect when the show’s favorite hero returns!
Steve Burton is Back as Jason

Soap Opera Digest reports that Burton will be back on screen on Monday, July 13, 2026, which also happens to be the show’s 16,000th episode!
Viewers recall that the WSB (World Security Bureau) took Jason into custody after he confessed to shooting WSB director Ross Cullum (Andrew Speakes). In reality, of course, Jason was doing what he does best — protecting someone else! He knew that Rocco (Finn Carr) had pumped lead into Cullum, but Jason took the blame to help Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Lulu’s (Alexa Havins) son.
Head writers Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte said that Jason will come back a “changed man.” His imprisonment will have had a profound effect on his outlook and on how he plans to conduct himself moving forward.
Jason’s decision will have an impact on his son, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), the Quartermaines, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), and “especially” Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Jason’s Origins

Burton first joined GH in 1991 as the son of the late Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) and Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson). Jason’s biological mother was the late Susan Moore Baldwin (Gail Garlson), who was killed by Crane Tolliver (Wiley Harker), who was once married to Alan’s mother, the late Lila Quartermaine (Anna Lee).
In the mid-1990s, Jason was in a car accident involving his brother, AJ (Sean Kanan), which left Jason with a brain condition. He lost his memory and personality, and emerged as Jason Morgan, a hitman for mobster Sonny.
Over the years, Jason has been romantically involved with Elizabeth (Becky Herbst), the late Samantha McCall (Kelly Thiebaud), and he’s been besties with Dr. Robin Scorpio-Drake (Kimberly McCullough) and Carly Spencer (Laura Wright).
Jason’s children are Danny, whose mother is Sam, and Jake Webber (last played by Hudson West), whose mother is Elizabeth.
Jason’s absence from Port Charles, alas, put a pin in his relationship with Britt. The two found love while on an adventure a few years ago. First, Jason was presumed dead in a cave-in. Then, when Jason came back from the dead, as he has been known to do, he learned that Britt had died, a victim of the Hook (AKA Heather Webber, played by Alley Mills).
Next, it was Britt’s turn to do the Lazarus bit. Jason’s been trying to help Britt since she returned from the dead. Currently, Britt and Rocco are on the run!
