Sorry if you don’t have humor

Swedish singer and songwriter Zara Larsson has recently faced criticism for the comment she left on a fan’s TikTok post. The user seemingly attended one of her shows and posted a video on TikTok, in which she wrote:

“I didn’t know I was pregnant here but at least my baby got to hear ‘Midnight Sun’ before I aborted it.”

Responding to it, Larsson wrote:

“I killed the performance and then you killed it after the performance purrrrrr.”

Her comment went viral, and many even seemed offended by it. Reacting to the ongoing discourse about her comment, the singer posted a self-recorded video in which she said the comment was funny and that’s why she said it. Zara Larsson added:

“Sorry if you don’t have humor. But also, I’m not really here to argue with the people who are very against abortions for whatever reason, because we’re so fundamentally different in the way we view the world, at least on this topic.”

She said she was not interested in convincing anyone of anything. However, she wanted to have a one-on-one with the people. The singer asked people why they thought abortion was fine only when it became a difficult decision. According to her, it is something that women have to struggle with both emotionally and physically.

Zara Larsson asked why people felt abortion was “morally okay” only when women have to suffer. She suggested that it should also be okay for women to want an abortion without it being a difficult decision.

Zara Larsson said that the topic of abortion need not be a taboo

According to Zara Larsson, to prevent abortion, sex education should be taught to children. They should get an idea that if people didn’t want babies, there is access to contraceptives and birth control measures. She said that it is in human nature to be intimate with one another, but it does not mean that they should have babies.

Zara Larsson said that if one were “pro-choice,” it should be devoid of any condition. She claimed:

“And I feel like joking about stuff like that which is a “serious topic,” it also makes it something that we can just talk about. It doesn’t have to be taboo. It doesn’t have to be this like bad thing that women do because also if we speak about it in a casual manner, that also makes the women who go through it and who are actually suffering through it because of course there are women that, you know, they want their babies, but they can’t.”

Zara Larsson said that there are women who can’t keep their babies due to various medical reasons. She said she is aware of cases in Texas where women wanted to have children, but they couldn’t, and ended up having abortions. She said she was in favor of making more jokes about the issue. Despite everything, she said that it wasn’t any better because women have to suffer at the end of the day.
