General Hospital will welcome a brand-new character to the canvas this spring played by All My Children alumnus Jonathan Bennett. How this character will fit into the scheme of things remains to be seen.
Jonathan Bennett comes to General Hospital
Bennett will make his GH debut in May when Joe Fitzpatrick is introduced to the Port Charles scene. We have yet to learn who Joe will be related to (if anyone) and how he ties into any existing plots.
“We’re so excited to have Jonathan joining our cast,” Executive Producer Frank Valentini said in statement to Soap Opera Digest. “He’s a tremendous talent and will be a fantastic addition to GH.”
Fitzpatrick is already a familiar face to ABC soap fans as he played JR Chandler on All My Children from 2001-2002, before Jacob Young took over the role. Young also appeared on GH as Lucky Spencer. Ironically, JR’s eventual wife, Babe, was played by Alexa Havins, who now brings Lucky’s sister, Lulu, to life.
Where else you have seen Bennett before
After leaving All My Children, Bennett became a movie name when he appeared in the hit film Mean Girls, which he later told Soap Opera Digest was a “blessing” for him.
“I owe everything in my career and everything in my life, pretty much, to Tina Fey, Lorne Michaels, and Mark Waters,” he said.
Later, Bennett added another notch to his acting belt when he became a Broadway star in Monty Python’s Spamalot. Other credits include the Hallmark flicks The Groomsman and A Keller Christmas Vacation. He also hosts the Food Network series Halloween Wars.
During his time with Hallmark, Bennett has gotten to know Ryan Paevey, who plays Cassius Faison and has been a member of the Hallmark movie family for the last decade.
Will Joe Fitzpatrick have anything to do with Cassius and his backstory? We still don’t know a lot about Cassius except that he is Nathan’s twin, Britt’s (Kelly Thiebaud) brother, and Cesar Faison’s (Anders Hove) son. Joe could be someone from his past or someone with his own history who mingles with other members of the canvas. Stay tuned to find out just who Joe Fitzpatrick is.
