Singer’s Knicks loyalty questioned online after radio host’s hot mic moment goes viral

Taylor Swift attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden, NYC, on June 10.

MSG Networks’ lead radio analyst, Monica McNutt, was covering the game with fellow broadcaster Tyler Murray when she identified the pop icon seated courtside before saying in a now-viral hot mic moment:

“She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here, girl.”

This remark had divided reactions among netizens. While Swifties defended the Lover singer and called for McNutt’s dismissal, others seemed to agree with the NBA analyst.

For instance, Threads user @jsphlive wrote:

“When did Taylor Swift become a Knicks fan? In my 34 years of watching the NBA… I’ve never seen her and Spike Lee in the same place.”

Many joined the conversation and shared a similar opinion on X under the comment section of the NBA’s post showing Taylor Swift blowing a kiss toward the camera.

“What the f**k, since when is she a fan?” a user asked.

“I really dislike it when celebrities only start attending games once it’s the trendy thing to do. We all love Taylor Swift, but let’s be real—she’s not exactly a die-hard basketball fan,” another user wrote.

“The way she pretends to root for the Knicks. What an embarrassment,” a netizen wrote.

Others weighed in and pointed out Swift has been a fan since 2014.

“She’s been a fan, idiot,” a Swiftie wrote with a collage of Taylor’s Knicks appearances over the years.

“F**k that b*tch that said that. Trump’s not a Knicks fan, but he was there. Robert Kraft ain’t no Knicks fan, he showed up. She likes sports. She’s allowed to show up and enjoy it like everyone else,” a fan commented.

“Bro, the Knicks broadcast booth is just a bunch of guys who’ve never seen a WAG in their life. Taylor could buy the whole arena and they’d still tell her to bounce,” one individual claimed.

“Taylor’s been reppin’ NY longer than that ponytail. Get out of here with that energy,” a user stated.

Exploring Taylor Swift’s history as a Knicks supporter

Since 2014, Taylor Swift has owned multiple properties across New York. That same year, she even wrote a song titled, Welcome to New York, for the album 1989. Other songs she has dedicated to the Big Apple over the years include Cornelia Street, False God, and Delicate.

Her first major appearance at a Knicks game was at the MSG in November 2014, when they were playing against the Magic. She was seated in a celebrity row alongside Amanda Seyfried, Justin Long, Justin Verlander, and Kate Upton.

A month before that, Taylor Swift and her then-best friend Karlie Koss were seen attending a Knicks vs. Bulls game in NYC. Back then, she met Knicks stars, Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire and posed with them in her Number 13 jersey inside the arena.

Subsequently, she told Time Magazine that the reason she became a Knicks fan was Stoudemire.

“So, you run into a bunch of different, interesting types of people at the Met Ball. I’ve gone for the last four years. And the most normal people at that event, every single time, are Amar’e Stoudemire and his wife, Alexis. I talk with them and hang out with them every time I’m there. So, I’ve always had this sort of love of the Knicks, just because Amar’e is so cool.”

When the interviewer noted the Knicks “aren’t very good,” the Grammy winner responded:

“I love them, though. Why does that matter?”

Taylor Swift recalled that as a kid, she performed at the MSG as part of a Knicks Kids Talent Competition:

“And ever since then, I’ve had this kind of sparkly, magical opinion of Madison Square Garden and the Knicks, since they let me sing when I was a little kid.”

Taylor Swift’s NFL star fiancé, Travis Kelce, spoke about her Knicks fanaticism in a May 2026 episode of his New Heights podcast:

“Not a lot of teams have been able to get Taylor to wear a jersey, and the Knicks did… Tay’s got a lot of New York ties. When it came down to going to the Cavs game, she was like, ‘Oh nice, they’re playing the Knicks, sweet! I’ve seen them play before.’ It was fun.”

On Wednesday, Taylor Swift, 36, attended the Knicks vs Spurs game in a custom blue t-shirt with “Steve Knicks” written across in orange. Her companions, Este and Alana Haim, were also seen in similar funky t-shirts. The former’s read, “Knickole Kidman” and the latter’s read “Knickelback.” Mariska Hargitay, who’s a friend of Taylor and a well-known Knicks fan, was also present.

Throughout the game, the Eras Tour hitmaker was seen enjoying the game, celebrating when the Knicks took a lead, and even showing off her dance moves courtside during halftime.

It is noteworthy that Taylor Swift was also present at Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Cleveland earlier this month with Travis Kelce. The postseason playoff game was between the Knicks and the Cavaliers.

While Taylor and Travis haven’t officially confirmed the date and venue of their upcoming nuptials, reports claim they are set to tie the knot at MSG on July 3. An insider told Page Six on Wednesday that Swift’s presence at Wednesday’s game was because she is a “huge fan” of the team and wanted to be “there to support them.” The source also added that she would be accompanied by her friends.

Wednesday’s match drew a lot of celebrity support from the likes of Spike Lee, Adam Sandler, Timothee Chalamet, Tracy Morgan, Jay-Z, Fat Joe, Nas, Larry David, and Ben Stiller (he was branded “entitled” for claiming he gets Knicks passes for free).
