Political reason behind changing major character’s name in Silo Season 3

For Silo Season 3, there will be many changes from the novel by Hugh Howey. For the first two seasons, the series was able to bring life to the distinct details of the novels in the series. However, for the third season, things will be different according to showrunner Graham Yost. In a recent interview with Radio Times, Graham Yost notes that among the many changes in Silo Season 3, the change in the congressman’s name is political.

In the novel, Congressman Daniel Keene was named Donald. Yost did not want to name a character “Donald in this world. He notes that the name is “recognisable,” especially because of the current president of the United States. Yost also adds that he chose Daniel instead of Donald also because he loves the Elton John song ‘Daniel’.

The focus of Silo Season 3 will be on a split timeline. Juliette’s present situation will be the focus of one timeline, while the other one will shed light on how life was before the silos. Juliette’s memory loss will also become a propelling factor in the storyline. On the other hand, conspiracies will be unveiled by Congressman Daniel Keene and journalist Helen Drew. As Helen Drew and Daniel Keene get closer to the truth, an array of complicated situations will follow them, further intensifying the storyline.

Showrunner Graham Yost also added that they had to do their “heaviest lifting” for Silo Season 3, and the fourth season will also have some of these complex elements. Bringing the changes from the novel was not a difficult task for Graham Yost, as Hugh Howey was “totally on board”.

Hugh Howey also added in an interview that the “beauty” of adapting a novel to a TV show is that “you don’t have to chop as much out”. In the first two seasons, it can be understood that the storyline of the series remained quite faithful to the novel.

Howey adds that through a TV show, there is a chance to “breathe a little more life and space into the story”. His words further add to the intrigue for Silo Season 3. It cannot be denied that right after the arrival of the series, it gained an immense positive response from the viewers and has created a strong fanbase for the series.

The intricate storylines that the series brings forth, along with the stellar performance of the cast members, make the series such an intriguing watch. For the third season, besides Rebecca Ferguson, who brings life to the character of Juliette Nichols, some of the other cast members of the series are Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Remmie Milner, Clare Perkins, etc. Helen Drew’s character will be brought to life by Jessica Henwick while Ashley Zukerman brings life to Daniel Keene’s character.

It must also be noted that the third season of the series will have 10 episodes, and the new episodes will be released weekly. Viewers can tune in to Apple TV on July 3 for the new season. The previous seasons of the series are also available for streaming on the same platform.
