Ex-girlfriend makes shocking allegations against the talented but troubled receiver
The NFL has confirmed it is investigating domestic violence allegations made against Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice, marking the latest chapter in a turbulent stretch for one of the league’s most promising young stars.
The allegations were made publicly this week by Rice’s former girlfriend, Dacoda Jones, who shares two children with the receiver, and have quickly drawn attention from both the league and the Chiefs organization.
League acknowledges Rashee Rice situation
In a statement released Wednesday, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed that the league is aware of the allegations and is reviewing the matter under its personal conduct policy.
“We have been in contact with the club about the matter which will be reviewed under the league’s personal conduct policy,” McCarthy said, according to reporter Pete Sweeney in a post on X.
The NFL’s personal conduct policy gives the league broad authority to discipline players even when allegations do not result in criminal charges. In recent years, the league has shown a willingness to impose suspensions based on its own investigations. In 2023, Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller received a four-game suspension following domestic violence allegations, despite no criminal charges being filed.
Chiefs offer limited comment
The Kansas City Chiefs also released a brief statement late Wednesday, several hours after the allegations began circulating on social media. The team acknowledged awareness of the claims but did not comment on Rice’s status or whether it is conducting an independent investigation.
“The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League,” the statement read, via reporter Sam McDowell. “We have no further comment at this time.”
The reserved response contrasts with the public support Rice previously received from teammates during his six-game suspension in the 2025 season. At the time, several Chiefs players, including star tight end Travis Kelce, wore shirts reading “Free 4,” a reference to Rice’s jersey number.
Allegations surface on Instagram
The allegations were made by Dacoda Jones in an emotional Instagram post that included multiple graphic images showing bruises and scratches on her face and body. While Jones did not explicitly name Rice, she referred repeatedly to abuse by a former partner and noted that some incidents occurred while she was pregnant.
“I’m so tired of keeping quiet. I’m so tired of protecting his image,” Jones wrote. “I’ve been through enough in the span of eight years and I’ve had ENOUGH! I’ve dealt with abuse for years… we decided to break up a couple months ago and it’s been nothing but hell.”
Jones and Rice share two children. As of now, there has been no public response from Rice addressing the allegations.
A troubled year for the Chiefs receiver
The accusations come less than a year after Rice pleaded guilty to two felony charges stemming from a 2024 highway crash that involved a high-speed road race. Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail, five years of deferred probation, and ordered to pay more than $115,000 in restitution to victims. The NFL subsequently suspended him for six games during the 2025 season.
With the league now reviewing a separate and more serious set of allegations, Rice’s future remains uncertain.
Potential impact on Kansas City
Any extended absence or additional discipline would be a significant blow to a Chiefs offense already facing major questions. Travis Kelce is at the end of his contract and weighing retirement, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes is rehabilitating a torn ACL and LCL that could sideline him for part or all of the upcoming season.
For now, the Chiefs and the NFL are keeping their public comments minimal as the investigation unfolds. But the situation underscores the growing scrutiny surrounding player conduct — and the increasingly fragile balance between on-field talent and off-field accountability in the modern NFL.
