Jalen Ramsey of the Pittsburgh Steelers says JaMarr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals spit on him. Chase says he didn’t. Ramsey slugged him.
Week 11 of the NFL schedule was nasty, and with the Steelers and Bengals being longtime AFC North rivals that could’ve been expected without the expectoration.
The referees say they did not see Chase spit on Ramsey. Ramsey said the cameras will.
“I don’t give a f–k about football after that, respectfully,” Ramsey said. “I’m always going to be all for trash talking, s— talking, things like that. I actually enjoy that part of the game. I think that people know that. … We were talking s–t, which I’m cool with. And then as soon as he spit, it was f— that. … I’m sure the NFL, they’ll do their due diligence. They’ve got 100 cameras out there. They can investigate. They can see everything.”

For his part in Ramsey’s ejection, Chase maintains that “I never opened my mouth to that guy. I didn’t spit on nobody.”
The Saliva on No. 5-a didn’t keep the first-place Steelers from handing the Bengals their third straight loss, 34-12.
Quarterback news, part 1: Shedeur Sanders
Former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders did not impress himself in his NFL debut in the second half of the Cleveland Browns’ 23-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. After starting QB Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion in the first half, Sanders completed only 4 of 16 pass attempts for 47 yards and threw an interception.
“I don’t think I played good,” Sanders told ESPN. “I don’t think I played good at all. I think there’s a lot of things we need to look at during the week and go and just get comfortable with even throwing routes with [wide receiver] Jerry [Jeudy] and throwing routes with all those guys. I think that was my first ball to him all year. But other than that, I just think overall, we just got to go next week and understand, so that we have a week to prepare stuff I like to do.”
Quarterback news, part 2: The Chiefs are in trouble
The Kansas City Chiefs have the AFC West’s greatest point differential, outscoring their opponents by 73 points. But all that’s gotten them is third place in the division and the increasingly real possibility that they will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014, Andy Reid‘s first season as coach.
Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback, is falling on the sword.
“There’s times where I’m firing and we’re moving the ball down the field at ease,” Mahomes said. “But there’s times where we go in spurts where I miss a throw or a [pass] protection call. We haven’t been consistent enough to win games. It starts with me.”
At 5-5, the Chiefs would miss the playoffs if the postseason began today. But since it doesn’t, there’s still time for them to recover. But that time is dwindling.
Quarterback news, part 3: Michael Penix Jr. might be done
Things aren’t good for the Atlanta Falcons and their starting quarterback, Michael Penix Jr.
Penix, 25, suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Falcons bolted to a two-touchdown lead, but couldn’t hold on, losing their fifth straight game, 30-27 in overtime. It’s the first time the Panthers have swept the Falcons in a season since 2013.
The Falcons’ quarterback suffered ACL tears in 2018 and 2020 in the same knee while attending the University of Washington. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Penix’s injury could end his season but that he will seek a second opinion. But Schefter reports that the outlook is “not encouraging.”
