Blizzard Entertainment’s second season of Reign of Talon arrives with a brand new hero, major map
Blizzard Entertainment’s second season of Reign of Talon has arrived, and it brings one of the most content-packed updates the game has seen in some time. Season 2, titled Summit, touches nearly every part of the experience, from the hero roster and competitive rankings to cosmetics, map design and platform availability. For players trying to make sense of everything dropping at once, here is a closer look at the 8 most significant changes coming with the new season.
New hero and a story-driven event
1. Sierra joins as a new damage hero with a backstory woven directly into the Reign of Talon narrative. The former Head of Security at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa defended the facility against Talon before agreeing to join Overwatch on one condition: the full truth about the Soldier Enhancement Program that used her mother as its first test subject. Armed with a rifle and a combat drone named Dorothy, Sierra brings both firepower and emotional depth to a roster already navigating its most complicated chapter yet.
2. Operation: Grand Mesa is a three-week limited-time event running until May 4 that puts Sierra’s backstory at its center. Players earn lore, Voice Lines, Icons, Name Cards, Titles, Sprays, Battle Pass Tier Skips and Loot Boxes by completing matches and curated challenges across four distinct story beats, all tracked through a dedicated in-game interface.
Gameplay and map updates
3. Post Match Accolades return after an absence, allowing players to vote immediately after Play of the Game for the teammate or opponent who made the biggest impression. The top vote-getter earns an animated spotlight moment, with categories covering clutch saves, team play, sportsmanship and the kind of game-changing pressure that rarely shows up in raw statistics but often decides outcomes.
4. The Antarctic Peninsula map rework addresses flow and engagement across all three of its sub-locations. Icebreaker gains cleaner flank routes and stronger ship-themed visuals. Research Station opens its main choke point and adds a new backside flank. Underground receives higher ceilings, simplified layouts and improved visibility throughout.
2 new Mythic skins
5. Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 delivers the hero’s first-ever Mythic skin, a high-voltage cyberpunk design with four tiers of unlockable effects. Each tier builds on the last, covering ability visual effects, additional hairstyle options, alternate red and blue colorways and a final ambient spark effect that adds ongoing visual flair to every appearance on the battlefield.
6. Sumi-ichimonji Genji arrives as a Mythic Weapon Skin blending traditional ink-calligraphy aesthetics with Genji’s signature dragon identity across four unlock levels. The design deepens at each stage, adding reactivity, flourish animations and a final kill visual effect in which ink follows the blade as it cuts through enemies.
Stadium, platforms and more
7. Stadium mode welcomes Ramattra as a newly playable hero and introduces Lijiang Night Market as a fresh Control map. Juno receives a balance rework designed to improve reliability, a new decay system replaces seasonal resets for smoother competitive transitions, and Jetpack Cat is confirmed to make its Stadium debut at midseason.
8. Nintendo Switch 2 support brings Overwatch to the new platform with up to 60 frames per second in both docked and handheld modes, alongside improved visuals and higher fidelity audio than any previous portable version of the game.
Beyond the 8 headline additions, Season 2 delivers the Sakura Collection, dressing six heroes including Hanzo, Genji and Junker Queen in cherry blossom-inspired designs available from April 14 through May 4. The Overwatch x LE SSERAFIM crossover also returns through April 27, bringing all 15 Legendary collaboration skins back to the shop. A Perks Mini Refresh adds new ability options for Ramattra, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier: 76 and Mercy, and a new WEBTOON series titled Overwatch: Undivided launches alongside the season to expand the Reign of Talon story through weekly episodes.
