Good news for the fans of South Korean horror show as Netflix released yesterday If Wishes Could Kill. Over the last few decades, South Korea has built a global reputation for stylish and unsettling horror films like The Wailing, Whispering Corridors, as well as A Tale of Two Sisters.
TV shows like All of Us Are Dead and Sweet Home have reached huge audiences, but the occult side of the Korean drama has not yet had a breakout hit. This show may change that as it blends teen drama with tech horror and occult mystery in a way that feels fresh and powerful. Season 1 of the show has eight episodes, and it tells the story of a group of students who discover a strange app. The app promises to grant their wishes, but each gift comes with a deadly price.
The show is a classic ghost story that uses old Korean folklore with the fears of modern technology. It kept the audience hooked and uncertain right up to the final moment. In the ending, viewers saw Yoo Se ah managed to break the curse tied to the Girigo app. She did this by entering the spirit world and destroying the original phone that served as its anchor. With the help of a spiritual tool, she was able to end the immediate danger.

If Wishes Could Kill: Hyeon Wook’s deadly wish
In If Wishes Could Kill, Lee Hyop je plays Hyeon wook, the class clown, who used the app to wish for a perfect score on his math test. We saw him celebrating after he got the result and shared the app with his friends. At first, they laugh it off, but everything changes when Hyeon wook suddenly cuts his own throat in front of the whole class. The incident seemed controlled by an unseen force.
By then, two of his friends had already made their own wishes. Geon woo, who has just started dating Se ah, wished her track training to be cancelled so that she could attend Hyeon’s birthday party. Na ri was drunk and frustrated and wished for the deaths of Hyeon and her older friend, Dong jae. Her countdown stopped only after Geon woo makes his wish.
If Wishes Could Kill ending explained: Na ri’s curse lives on
The ending of this South Korean horror show hinted at more stories to come. In the final scene, Hyeon’s online friend from Discord went looking for Na ri’s abandoned phone on the school grounds. He was guided by a strange contact who not only knew where the phone was but also knew the password.
When the phone was locked, the Girigo app was still there, waiting to be used again. The identity of the person behind the Discord message was left unclear. One possible answer was that the spirit of Na ri is sending them. She would know the location of her phone and the password and she still carries anger toward her friend.
In addition, the curse of the app would only work when someone makes a bloody wish. If Na ri made one before she died, then the curse would have already begun again. The open ending leaves room for the story to continue with either the same group of characters or a new set of victims.
