ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Dispatch audio has surfaced in connection with the investigation into former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore, captured shortly after the 39-year-old was fired and taken into police custody on Wednesday.
According to recordings obtained by TMZ, a 911 call was placed from a residence in Ann Arbor around 4 p.m. Wednesday in which a woman reported that a man was “attacking her” and had “been stalking her for months.”
The call was made from an address tied to a long-time Michigan football employee — identified in some reports as the executive assistant to the head coach — though it remains unclear whether that employee was the alleged victim or simply the owner of the home where the incident occurred.
Later in the audio, dispatchers note that Moore’s spouse contacted authorities, saying the suspect appeared suicidal after “losing his job today,” and that the man was reported to be in possession of a knife. Police responded to the scene with assistance from a University of Michigan detective.
Moore fired amid inappropriate-relationship probe
Hours before his arrest, the University of Michigan announced Moore’s immediate dismissal “for cause” following an internal investigation that uncovered what the school described as credible evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel said the conduct violated university policy.
Moore had taken over as head coach in 2024 after Jim Harbaugh’s departure, compiling a record that included a 9-3 season in 2025. The program now faces further instability with associate coach Biff Poggi appointed interim head coach.
Arrest and ongoing investigation
Following the dispatch call, Moore was detained by police in Saline, Mich., about 10 miles south of U-M, and transferred to the Pittsfield Township Police Department before being booked into the Washtenaw County Jail. Authorities have not released formal charges, and as of Thursday, prosecutors said no charging decision was expected immediately but that Moore is slated to appear before a judge on Friday.
Police emphasized that the incident “does not appear to be random in nature,” but declined to provide additional details due to the ongoing investigation.
The alleged victim’s identity has not been publicly confirmed, and social media speculation linking the woman in the audio to the fired Michigan employee has not been independently verified.
What’s next?
Moore remains in custody pending further legal proceedings, while the University of Michigan’s football program and local authorities continue their separate inquiries into the circumstances surrounding both the inappropriate-relationship finding and the assault allegations.
