Maxwell Caulfield joins Ava and Alexis’ big art adventure

General Hospital is bringing on a familiar face to soap fans for a storyline beat. Actor Maxwell Caulfield, who played the volatile Miles on Dynasty and The Colbys, is going to appear on the show on Friday, May 29.

The actor told TV Insider that he was hoping to find the opportunity to join the ABC soap, calling Mark Teschner, the show’s casting director, “brilliant.”

The role is just a “one-off,” but Caulfield says that he was happy to take it. Here’s what happens: Caulfield’s character, Apollo, is a New York City art gallery owner who is paid a visit by Ava (Maura West) and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn).

The two women are trying to get info on Delilah, the mother of baby Phoebe, the infant that Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn (Amanda) want to adopt.

Caulfield says there’s something “dubious” about his character. Actors often joke that they’ll book a gig when they make plans to go on vacation. That’s just what happened in this instance. He and his wife, Juliet Mills (ex-Tabitha, Passions), were set to go to England on holiday when the offer from GH came in. “Juliet ended up going with our daughter, and I changed my ticket and stayed behind,” Caulfield says.

The actor has nothing but raves about West and Grahn. He says they were aces. “Maura’s got a great sense of humor, and Nancy was particularly reassuring and very sweet-natured. They put me completely at ease; I found working with them a delight,” Caulfield says.

Harmony, Pine Valley, and New York City

The actor says that he ran into a few familiar faces from Passions, including Gary Tomlin, director, MK Weir, a producer, and Brook Kerr (ex-Whitney, Passions; now, Portia, GH). “I just couldn’t have had a nicer reception from everybody,” the actor says.

Caulfield is known to ABC daytime soap fans for his turn as Pierce Riley on All My Children, a role he played 30 years ago. He remembers meeting series creator Agnes Nixon at Tavern on the Green in New York City. “[T]hat was like meeting The Godmother,” he says. His visit to Pine Valley reunited him with Michael Nader [Dimitri, AMC; ex-Farnsworth “Dex” Dexter, Dynasty].

Before AMC, Caulfield played a drunken punk in an episode of Ryan’s Hope in 1980. “It was a wonderful classic back in the day,” he recalls of the critically acclaimed soap opera.

Caulfield can also be seen as Sir Thomas Kenway on the Daytime Emmy Award-winning series The Bay. He is also known for his role as the lead in Grease 2, opposite Michelle Pfeiffer.

Might Caulfield and Apollo pop up again on GH? Anything’s possible in the world of soaps! Stay tuned to find out!
