Avengers: Secret Wars, which is releasing next year, is the culmination of MCU Phases 4, 5, and 6, also called the Multiverse Saga. The sixth Avengers movie is releasing next December, and it will probably pick up where this year’s Doomsday will end. While cameras haven’t started rolling on Secret Wars, rumors continue to circulate across the internet about the movie’s cast.
Internet scooper MyTimeToShineHello revealed through their X (formerly Twitter) post that Spider-Man: No Way Home would not be the last time that we would get Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men on the big screen. The internet scooper hinted that Sony/Marvel has plans for other projects headlined by the actors after next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
Are Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Avengers: Secret Wars? Rumor explained:
Garfield and Maguire’s returns have not been confirmed, and given the reaction to Spider-Man: No Way Home back in 2021, it wouldn’t be surprising if Marvel or Sony would like to keep it a secret for as long as possible. However, rumors suggest that the two former Spider-Men are appearing in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, where they would reunite with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
MyTimeToShineHello now further adds to the speculations about the MCU’s future as the scooper suggested both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are sticking around after Avengers: Secret Wars. The scooper said that Sony/Marvel are planning two more projects featuring the actors. But they did not specify whether two projects were crossovers or solo projects featuring each of the two actors.
This is not the first rumor this week in which a legacy Marvel actor suggested sticking around after Secret Wars. Hugh Jackman also jokingly told PBS that he wouldn’t mind playing Wolverine until he is 90, echoing a popular joke from Deadpool & Wolverine:
“I’m 57. I’m doing it till I’m 90. So, you know… I’ll do a little time capsule for them.”
This is in firm contrast to Jackman’s delaration almost a decade ago that 2017’s Logan would be his final turn as the clawed mutant. But he walked back on those comments for Deadpool & Wolverine. Therefore, it won’t be surprising if Hugh Jackman, along with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, were to appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.
What do we know about Secret Wars?
As of now, very few details are available about Secret Wars, but it looks like Marvel might be following the same plan DC did for its comics continuity back in Crisis on Infinite Earths in the 1980s. DC streamlined its continuity with Crisis on Infinite Earths, and it looks like the MCU is doing the same with its sprawling and confusing continuity with next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars.
However, given that the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars deal with alternate realities and multiverses, it won’t be surprising if more and more actors from previous phases and even pre-MCU Marvel actors appear in the two movies.
