Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair performance after its release

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair is currently listed in Hulu’s top 10 series list. The series consisted of four episodes, with each having a runtime of around twenty-five minutes and the last episode having a runtime of thirty-five minutes.

The synopsis of the season read:

“Twenty years have gone by since we last saw Malcolm and his family — and after all that time, they’ve learned absolutely nothing.”

The sitcom, themed around parenthood and family, featured Bryan Cranston, Justin Berfield, Christopher Masterson, Keeley Karsten, Vaughan Murrae, Kiana Madeira, Jane Kaczmarek, Frankie Muniz, Gary Anthony Williams, Emy Coligado, and Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.

The show’s success on the platform was already taking shape, with the trailer gaining over eleven million views on YouTube ahead of the release. It’s a revival miniseries of the original sitcom Malcolm in the Middle.

While the new series is already getting a lot of attention, it has also led to an increase in viewership for the original series, with a noticeable rise in views in recent days. As reported by Deadline, the original series saw a viewership going up by eighteen million hours in the past week.

The original series was created by Linwood Boomer, Andy Bobrow, and Michael Glouberman. It featured Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Justin Berfield, and Erik Per Sullivan in the lead roles. The series, consisting of seven seasons, holds an eight-star rating on IMDb, twenty years after its release.

Speaking of Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair and how it all came together, director Ken Kwapis said in a statement to The Mary Sue:

“I feel like the reason this revival happened at all is that Linwood Boomer had something to say about being a parent, and so I feel like this revival is coming from the best place. It’s really a personal thing. It’s a personal expression on Linwood’s part. And so it was obviously very weird to walk back into Malcolm’s family’s house, recreated after how many decades.”

Talking about directing both original and revival series, he added:

“For me, it was an opportunity to come full circle. The very first episode I directed was called ‘Roller Skates,’ and it’s a very Hal and Malcolm focused episode. So for Hal and Malcolm to sort of have this reckoning during this revival is really important. And while I was directing the revival, I was just constantly reminded of scenes and moments from the episodes I directed, gosh, 20 plus years ago.”
