Here’s what went down Tuesday, April 30, 2026, on Beyond the Gates when Chelsea taught Madison to think outside the box, Jessica put her cotillion skills to use, and Lia made the rounds.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Chelsea ran into Leslie at Orphey Gene’s, taking the opportunity to flame her for messing with her and Madison’s wedding plans. “That’s geriatric,” Leslie scoffed, telling Chelsea that the issue needed to be put on a ventilator. Chelsea couldn’t understand why Leslie had targeted Nicole, who had never done anything to her; Leslie argued that Nicole had choked her right there in the restaurant. Leslie didn’t want to hear Chelsea’s contention that she should be thanking Anita for making her fortune possible by moving away and leaving the Duprees alone.
Anita went to the hospital for a follow-up appointment and discussed Vernon’s vitamin deficiency with Madison; both were glad that Vernon could now put more focus on himself since Anita seemed to be out of danger. Later, Lia approached Madison and said that, while Madison could continue in her Parkinson’s research, the hospital lawyers had decided it would be best for Madison to temporarily stop seeing patients until the malpractice lawsuit was resolved. Madison suggested that her attorneys speak to Garland’s, then complained to Chelsea about the forced sabbatical. Chelsea summoned Madison to the club gym with an idea designed to make her feel better.
Madison was surprised that Chelsea wanted to teach her how to box. Chelsea explained that Bill had taught her self-defense, which had helped her while moving in the modeling world, and during her kidnapping ordeal with Chelsea. Madison was tentative at first but soon found the release in the exercise that Chelsea was hoping she would. When Willow called, and Madison still didn’t want to talk to her, Chelsea picked up and advocated for Madison, adding that communication between the two would only happen through the lawyers. Madison was thrilled.
What’s beef?

Anita was catching up with Shanice at the nurses’ station when Leslie stormed in and interrupted their conversation, hot off her dressing down from Chelsea. Shanice wasn’t about Leslie’s foolishness, but Anita stepped in and demanded that Leslie apologize for her rudeness. Leslie would only offer a weak mea culpa, referring to Anita as “Our Lady of Eternal Superiority.” Anita clapped back that she hadn’t been raised with money, but at least her mother had taught her manners. Leslie spat that not everybody got to even meet their mothers and skulked away; Ted had witnessed the encounter.
Leslie happened upon Lia, wanting to explore ways the clinic and the hospital could expand their partnership. Lia was dismissive and told Leslie to call her assistant. Ted saw that Leslie was being hassled again and asked her if she wanted to talk. In his office, Leslie admitted that Anita had hit a nerve – it hurt that she had missed out on having a mother in Barbara. Ted reminded Leslie that, thanks to her, Eva had likewise been raised without a father. Leslie seemed remorseful about keeping Ted and Eva apart and marveled that she and Ted were now able to show each other compassion, despite the things they had done to hurt each other. Ted gently took Leslie’s hand right as Shanice walked in; Leslie snarked that Ted couldn’t keep his hands off her. Once Leslie left, Ted tried to explain that he was trying to compensate for bringing the hateful side out in Leslie, but Shanice was angry and stormed out.
My humps

Martin met with Vernon, who relayed that Anita had insisted on going to her follow-up appointment alone; Martin declared that Anita was back. Vernon listened as Martin went over how Smitty hadn’t wanted to have a security detail with him for fear it would interfere with his exposé. Martin confessed that he didn’t know what the story was about, but he assumed there was danger involved. Vernon felt that Smitty could handle himself, yet didn’t like the fact that Joey had overheard Martin and Smitty arguing – or that Joey had offered to let Martin use his own private security to protect Smitty.
Conflicted, Martin knew that Joey wasn’t forgetting about the favors he owed him or that Joey could expose his secrets at any time – on the other hand, Martin felt called to the Senate and that he had outgrown the Congress. Vernon advised him to focus on keeping his Congressional seat this year before even thinking about 2028, as his prospects would be dim if he didn’t win in November. After Martin left, Anita came home and wanted to fuss over Vernon for a change. Vernon expressed his concerns about Joey and told Anita it was time he handled things with the man himself.
Smitty came upon Ted at the country club gym, talking about the cotillion and asking if it was all right to seat Ted and Nicole at the same table, since Samantha could use support from both her grandparents. Ted consented but stopped short of saying he’d be bringing Shanice as a plus-one. Smitty took the opportunity to ask Ted if he had ever interacted with any of the hospital’s lab techs. Ted said he typically moved in different circles but acknowledged that there had been blood shortages. Smitty thanked him for the information.
Teenage fever

Samantha and Jessica were at the brownstone, gabbing about the cotillion; Samantha was glad that she could put creating the clinic on her list of service work, but was still “salty” that Leslie had taken the credit for it. When Tyrell came downstairs, he was dismayed to hear that Jessica had been accepted at UCLA – since he had gotten into Banneker, he assumed Jessica would also be staying close to home. Jessica said she hadn’t yet decided if she would attend the West Coast school; Tyrell wanted some privacy to discuss the matter with Jessica, so Samantha ran an errand.
Tyrell was worried about all the California guys that Jessica could take her pick of; Jessica made light of it but assured Tyrell that she was only interested in him, adding that they could handle a long-distance relationship over Zoom. Tyrell observed that they had the house to themselves and took Jessica to his room, where he began unbuttoning her blouse. Just as things began to get romantic, the teens heard Smitty coming home.
Samantha, who had returned, busted Tyrell, but Smitty had just gotten a text from Jacob saying that he’d lost contact with Ren and barely paid attention to the kids’ squabbling. Martin came in as Samantha was decrying how unfair it was that Smitty was being so lax about Tyrell having a girl in his room when she had been grounded for weeks for making out with Nathan in the house.
Jessica had been studying conflict resolution as part of her own cotillion qualifications and got Martin and Smitty to see that they were being patriarchal with their “boys will be boys” attitude, while Samantha had practically been locked away for the same infraction. Smitty and Martin agreed to punish Tyrell, though Samantha was dissatisfied that Tyrell would only be grounded until cotillion – and still be able to leave the house due to his pre-gala commitments.
Tune in tomorrow when Kat and Martin give their parents’ not-anniversary an assist, Vernon lays down the law to Joey, and Tomás has new intel on Lynette.
Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
