Keir Starmer reacts after UK bans Ye amid controversy, forcing Wireless Festival cancelation

On April 7, Wireless Festival announced the cancellation of their upcoming music event following Kanye West’s controversy. The announcement from Wireless came after the government banned Kanye from entering the UK to perform at the music festival. The government stated that the rapper’s presence would not be favorable to the “public good.”

The Prime Minister of the UK, Keir Starmer, also shared a post on X saying that Ye should never have been invited to headline Wireless Festival. The Heartless rapper has been facing backlash amid his history of antisemitism. Therefore, Starmer expressed the UK government’s efforts to confront and defeat antisemitism.

“Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless. This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism.”

He continued:

“We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.”

The organizers of Wireless Festival also released a statement saying that they were forced to cancel the event.

“As a result of the Home Office banning YE from entering the United Kingdom, Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel. All ticket holders will receive an automatic full refund.”

Nigel Farage says the government shouldn’t ban Kanye West from coming to the UK

In the latest press conference, the UK’s Member of Parliament, Nigel Farage, said the government shouldn’t ban the rapper. He mentioned that the Prime Minister cannot prevent people from entering the country just because he disagrees with them. Nigel said:

“I think that for myself, I wouldn’t buy a ticket. | I wouldn’t recommend anyone buys a ticket. I think his comments are vile. Really vile. The sort of rabbit hole of anti-semitism stroke N*z*sm that he’s gone down is vile. But I think if we start banning people from entering the country because we don’t like what they say, I worry where that ends up. I worry where that ends up.

Farage added:

“The festival itself is threatened and I suspect very few people will buy tickets. I suspect the free market will choice will sort this out. But I’m not going to go down the route of banning people even if I think what they say is thoroughly objectionable.”

The sponsors of the Wireless Festival withdrew shortly after the Prime Minister criticized the festival for inviting Kanye West as the headliner, even before the festival was officially canceled.
