Kagurabachi anime officially confirmed for April 2027 with first teaser trailer

Kagurabachi entered anime with a bang. What was originally an internet joke about an “edgy” manga has now become one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s fastest-growing titles, and there is only one question that the fans have left: when will the anime come out?

The answer was revealed during Shueisha’s Jump Press livestream on April 27, 2026, that there will be a full television anime adaptation of Kagurabachi, which is set to air in April 2027. Studio Cypic will be doing the production, and the first actual look at Chihiro Rokuhira from the newly released teaser trailer will be in animated form.

The debut trailer immediately establishes its tone. In the very beginning of the trailer produced by Studio Cypic (formerly CygamesPictures), the teaser shows the references from the source material and quick animation clips to illustrate the atmosphere. We see Chihiro Rokuhira in action (with his trademark black trench coat, blade, and blood on his face), facing off against multiple enemies in small, dark, and confined environments, creating the same dark and gritty atmosphere that all Kagurabachi fans are accustomed to

While this preview is light on specifics, it certainly sets the mood with a powerful final shot. Chihiro is highlighted as he sits among fallen opponents, with his red eyes looking straight at us. Having been waiting for this series now since September of last year, when the manga was released, this preview really makes me want to read the wake of that manga.

Key Staff and Cast Revealed

The announcement included several noteworthy staff reveals. The director is Tetsuya Takeuchi, known for directing Heavenly Delusion and Hinamatsuri and for his original animation work in the Naruto franchise. Keigo Sasaki, who worked on the character designs of Blue Exorcist and Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray, will be responsible for the character design.

Shichiro Rokuhira will be voiced by Taichi Kimura, the Best New Actor at the 2025 Seiyu Awards. The production committee consists of Shochiku and CyberAgent.

Hokazono was excited for the team’s lineup, putting emphasis on Takeuchi as he had previously animated the famous Rock Lee vs. Gaara battle in Naruto, which was one of the most recognizable action scenes within anime. In addition, the creator of Kagurabachi said that they all deeply understand the source material they will be adapting, so he feels very confident about the adaptation.

A World Tour Ahead of the Premiere of Kagurabachi

Before Kagurabachi hits television screens, it will have a world tour that will allow fans to view the first 20 minutes of the anime premiere at major events around the globe starting in Summer 2026. The world tour will finish in Japan with a full premiere screening of the first episode before it is aired.

This kind of pre-launch rollout underscores just how much confidence Shueisha and its partners have in the property.

What the Story Is About

Kagurabachi tells the story of Chihiro Rokuhira, son of a famous sword maker who made enchanted swords that helped win a long war. After sorcerers raid his family’s shop and kill his father, Chihiro turns to revenge using the last sword that his father created. Kagurabachi has an action-packed plot but with an emotional story that deeply connects with readers around the world.

For those looking to catch up before the anime airs, Viz Media handles the English print and digital release in the United States. The manga is also available through Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platform online.
