Jimmy White’s bizarre gesture seconds after losing to Joe Perry in British Seniors Open final

JIMMY WHITE suffered a nail-biting defeat in the British Seniors Open final – and reacted by handing Joe Perry his bow tie.

The Whirlwind, 63, had already overcome Ken Doherty and Alfie Burden to keep his hopes of winning silverware alive.

But he was condemned to a dramatic 7-5 loss by Perry, who only retired after exiting the World Championship earlier this year.

And White bizarrely gave the newly-crowned champion his bow tie when they shook hands.

Perry could then be seen putting it in his pocket before waving to the cheering crowd at Derby’s Vaillant Live.

Footage showed that White had already taken his bow tie off halfway through the frame, after resigning himself to defeat.

The Tooting potter then walked out of the arena straight after receiving his runner-up medal – meaning he missed the trophy presentation.

Perry bagged £20,000 after coming out on top in the final and ending any fears of the showdown going to a black ball shootout.

He knocked out pre-tournament favourite Stuart Bingham and Matthew Stevens ahead of his meeting with White.

Channel 5 left viewers furious when they cut the feed to the final in favour of showing NFL Big Game Night.

Build-up to a Florida derby between the Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all of a sudden came on at 6pm.

Snooker fans were disgruntled after being told to switch over to Channel 5 Action to see what proved to be the final frame of the contest.

White won the British Open at the old Assembly Rooms venue in 1987 and 1992.

And he took to social media moments before walking out to face Perry to say he was pleased to be back in Derby.

But White could not get the better of Perry and decided to leave him a parting gift.
