The founder of Come Bee Well House discusses chronic stress, vibroacoustic therapy and creating Houston’s newest meditation sanctuary through Project Row Houses
Jasmine Lynch spent years watching the women in her family die younger with each generation. Her great grandmother lived to 94, but her grandmother only made it to her 60s, and her aunt to her 40s. The pattern was clear and troubling. When Lynch looked closer, she found a common thread connecting their early deaths. Chronic stress was killing them.
Now, as the founder of Come Bee Well House in Houston’s historic Third Ward, Lynch is offering her community the medicine she discovered for herself. Selected as one of four entrepreneurs for Project Row Houses’ 2025 Business Residency Program, she has transformed a space on Emancipation Avenue into a meditation sanctuary where people can simply be.
What inspired you to create this kind of wellness sanctuary?
It was coming into being the fifth generation of women in my family who did all of the things, go getters, made things happen. My great great grandmother not passing away till she was 94 years old, but everyone else underneath her passed away much younger than that. I started wondering what’s happening. How is it that my great great grandmother lived all the way to 94, but then my great grandmother passed in her 80s, and my grandmother passed in her 60s, and my aunt passed in her 40s. I started looking into that, and I realized that all of these chronic illnesses were caused by chronic stress.
As I did the research, what kept coming up over and over again that was accessible for everyone, was meditation. There’s medicine for depression, for anxiety, for high blood pressure, for diabetes, but there’s not necessarily a medicine for stress. I learned through Deepak Chopra and Oprah how to meditate. They had free 21 day meditations back in 2014, and I taught myself, and it changed my life.
It changed the relationships that I was in, personal, professional. It changed the way that I approached things, moving out of survival mode into actually just awareness and being. I believe that it’s given me years back on my life. It was important for me to make sure that the community has access to this.
What does wellness mean to you, and how does that philosophy shape the services you offer?
Wellness is a birthright. We are out in this world right now, and we are approaching so much in terms of productivity, in terms of achievement, in terms of meeting our goals, and we all hit that wall. We all hit that point, and it’s like now what do I do to become well?
Wellness to me is what is it that you’re able to do with everything that you already have when you’re giving everything that you already have out. How are you able to come back here? Wellness to me is the wealth that is within you. Wellness to me is breath. It’s actually being in touch with your mind, and your body, and your breath. It sounds simple, but most of us aren’t accessing that every day. We’re accessing the out there, we’re allowing our bodies to be used and kind of exploited at times when it’s in here.
It’s just being reconnected to the mind, the body, the breath, aware. To me, wellness is awareness. Wellness is the wealth that’s within. If I could put it in one sentence, wellness is being. Wellness is just the opportunity to be, as you are, who you are, who you are sent here to be. That’s well. And that’s a privilege that we all have a right to.
What is vibroacoustic therapy and how does it work?
Vibroacoustic therapy is the idea that low vibrational therapy or vibrations through your body, along with high frequency sound, can actually help to relieve pain, to relieve stress, to relax your mind, to almost allow you an escape that is a healthy escape. It gives you the opportunity to be grounded right here in this moment. The vibroacoustic therapy, the vibration and the sound together allow you to ground and be in that very moment. Just those 15 to 30 minutes, or an hour if you have that type of time, begin to reduce the effects of stress, taking us away from that inevitable chronic illness that we would get if we continue being on the stress train.
What we’ve noticed in our shop is there are people who love having meditation and a meditation teacher that is guiding you through meditation and sound and breath. They’re being introduced into vibroacoustic therapy, which is more self led, it is more being one with yourself. That vibration and that sound is giving us a response that’s different with every person.
We’ve had a man who told us that he has a titanium plate in his arm, and he’s not been able to move his arm into a straight line in months. He sat in the chairs, and however the sensory deprivation helped him, he straightened his arm out in the chair. We were all blown away. What someone else says is, oh my goodness, I haven’t sat still like that in 20 years.
What can someone expect when they visit Come Bee Well House?
The first thing you can expect is to feel like you’re at home. We look for Come Bee Well House to be your everyday retreat to come and be yourself and lay your stress to the side. We are a trauma informed care place, so we understand that our community has a lot that it’s bringing, and Come Bee Well House is the space for it to be.
You can expect to walk in and have a spa essence, so kind of come in and take that exhale. You can expect not to be rushed in or out. You come and have your class here, and then you have a space to come be and chill and be amongst community who’s just trying to have this moment before they have to go back to the out there.
Right now we have eight, we call them our house guests, because when you come into Come Bee Well House, you are our housemate. The guests are here on a residency, so they’re coming and sharing their gifts, so there’s different styles and vibrations. On top of that, you get to have some acoustic therapy, along with some art therapy. We have an art exhibit that is our healing art portal. We have a lot for you to feel like this can be your third home.
What does it mean to bring this wellness space to Third Ward specifically?
I am actually from Dallas, Texas, and I’ve been in Houston the last 15 years. When I first moved to Houston, I would have to drive through Third Ward sometimes to avoid traffic. I drove through here, and I said to myself 15 years ago, I’m going to live in Third Ward. I most recently purchased a home here, and then in the same time, space and energy, Project Row Houses announced that they were opening their business residency program, and I couldn’t believe it, because honestly it’s one of the best opportunities in Houston, Texas that you can have.
This program is supporting us local entrepreneurs who are on a small business level, and they’re helping us subsidize rent so we’re not paying high end prices. We also have marketing support from their team. We also are going to go through a mentorship program that is going to help us to build our business plans and expand and scale our businesses out. They’re helping us with financial resources, finding ways to fund our innovative ideas.
I’ve had people come here and say they’ve lived here for 35, 40, 50 years, and there’s never been anything like this in this community. There was a resident that came by and said, “Jasmine, you get the opportunity to bring peace to Emancipation.”
I’m so grateful that Project Row Houses has given us an opportunity. They’re investing in us, they’re investing in this community, and in them investing in me, they’re also investing in the wellness of this community. They’re investing in the opportunity for this community to just be, to have medicine for its stress, to have a place to come and feel like it’s home.
