TURNS OUT Kevin is not the only member of the Sinfield household hoping extensive training comes off.

But while one pounded the roads ahead of his latest physical challenge to raise funds for motor neurone disease charities in the name of pal Rob Burrow, son Jack has been trudging through mud to give him the best chance at Wakefield.

Sinfield Jr has left Leeds, where his old man is a legend, to try and crack Super League in his own name.

With current Steve Prescott Man of Steel Jake Connor and former holder of that title, Brodie Croft, in front of him, opportunities in the Rhinos’ halves were limited.

Now he hopes to make his mark after a personal training regime near his home in Saddleworth, Greater Manchester, with his dad backing his switch.

Sinfield said: “We keep our training separate. It’s not an active decision, it’s just we both have different things we need to do.

“I don’t need to be running marathons to play in Super League. I just do what I need to do and he does his long running. With his challenges coming up, it’s important he gets his miles in.

“I’ve not joined him on a training run. I’ve been doing a lot of interval training on Churchill Playing Fields, which is a bit different.

“There’s pretty much a groove there now where I was running up and down and if you can train there, you can train anywhere.

“You’ve got to that, otherwise you’ll be a bit behind when you come back.

“I still live at home, so I speak to my dad a lot, I’m very close to him and he just wants what’s best for me.

“He’s got the same ideas as me about what’s best for me, so he’s very supportive of me moving and whether I was at Leeds, Wigan or anywhere, it would have been the same decision.

“For the good of my career, this is the right move for me. I want to earn my place and start in a Super League side and Wakefield’s a brilliant club.

“It’s definitely on the up and they’ve got a strong existing squad, so I think a fresh start with new surroundings would be good for me.

“Although putting in a different postcode to go to training did feel a bit weird at first. I’d been at Leeds since I was about 14 or 15-years-old.”

Jack can now claim to have another thing in common with Kevin, being coached by Daryl Powell, who worked with his father when he was in charge of Leeds.

And the seal of approval was definitely applied as the 21-year-old added: “He only had good things to say about him.

“My dad was a similar age to me when he was getting coached by Daryl and I’m looking forward to working with him and learning from him.

“Daryl obviously told me what he thought about my game, where he thought he could help and that was exciting for me.

“I feel like I’m ready to play Super League, but obviously I’m still wanting to get better and having a coach who can help me in that way is great.

“And the Wakefield club is a lot different to when I came as a kid. Some of the facilities they have now can only make us better as players.”
