Ivy’s ‘motherly’ anvils keep dropping

The Bold and the Beautiful fans have been wondering for months why Ivy seems so interested in everything Electra to the point of being borderline obsessive and threatening. After the April 21st episode, it became much more clear what Ivy’s motives are.

It’s just not proper on The Bold and the Beautiful

When Electra (Laneya Grace) confronted her “Aunt” Ivy (Ashleigh Brewer) about the letter on Monday’s episode, Ivy stressed that she didn’t want Electra to fall for a young man with stars in her eyes only to be burned, as had happened to her. She knew what it was like to be young, naive, and allegedly in love, and didn’t want Electra to be hurt just as she was hurt.

That seemed to be one anvil telling us that that there was more to Ivy’s past then we had been aware of. She was quite young when she arrived on the Los Angeles scene years ago, but did something happen to her before than that changed her entire life?

Ivy drops some heavy hints

After Electra read Ivy for filth for keeping that very humdrum and short letter from Will (Crew Morrow), she tried to confide in Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) because she had to talk to someone. She didn’t want to come right and say what she did, so she spoke of her motherly instincts to protect Electra, even if Electra didn’t think she needed protecting.

As she spoke of Electra, it was as if she was speaking of her own child and not her niece. Ridge didn’t catch onto this, but the audience did. Might Ivy have given Electra up as a teen to her brother and his wife to raise before she moved to L.A.? Did she fall for a boy who broke her heat and left her pregnant? That might explain Ivy’s unhealthy obsession with the girl.

Meanwhile, Electra feels hurt and betrayed. The person she trusted most in the world went behind her back and played a dirty trick, although Ivy doesn’t see it that way at all.

That is the setup we need for a maternity reveal that Electra doesn’t see coming. Just when she doesn’t want to have anything to do with her aunt anymore, she is likely about to find out she is her mother.
