FELLOW beauty buffs will know that having a tan can transform how we look and feel, especially now that the we’re in winter.
There’s no such thing as a safe ‘real’ tan from the sun or sunbeds, so it’s always better to faux your glow with fake tan.

But with so many mousses and lotions on the high street, it can feel like a mission to find the best fake glow that will leave a flawless finish lasting for days.
Luckily, one woman has done all the hard work for us, rating some of the most popular fake tan products available in the UK – and her top go-to is going for just £5 at Boots.
Skin and laser practitioner Ellena has been wearing fake tan religiously every day for the past seven years – so it’s safe to say the beauty buff knows what she’s talking about.
The skincare lover, who posts under the username @ellenaashm, shared her verdict on a number of cult favourite tanning products, including the viral Filter by Molly-Mae.

Although Ellena loved the bronzed finish and rather the mousse with a generous 8/10, she wasn’t so keen on “the removal process”.
Ellena, who jokingly said she’s “sponsored by St. Moriz”, also shared her thoughts on two Bondi Sands faux tans – Self-Tanning Foam in Dark, as well as Liquid Gold.
While the mousse scored 7/10 thanks to the “nice undertone”, Ellena warned it stains “everything”.
Meanwhile, the dry tanning oil, which goes for £15.99 at Boots, was worthy of nine out of ten stars, in her opinion.
The beauty buff explained in the video: “Very dark and lasts on holiday. Only thing I don’t like is the application.”
The tanning product that ended up with the lowest rating was Solait Self Tan Mousse, which shoppers can find at Superdrug for an affordable £6.
Despite the absolute bargain price, Ellena warned “you have to buy the darkest shade to see it” – however, it “fades nicely, no tiger bread tan”.
In the clip, the TikToker also shared her verdict on the viral St Moriz Tanning Mousse, which Boots sells for just £4.99.
“Gets a lot of hate but I cannot fault,” said Ellena who rated it a whopping 1000/10.
Uploaded just one day ago, the clip has taken the internet by storm, racking up close to a staggering 150k views.
Dozens of social media users flocked to comments to share their thoughts, as well as their go-to products for the perfect glow.
“If st moriz changed the scent they’d be unstoppable,” wrote one person.
“That Superdrug tan has the potential to be the best but it just doesn’t last long enough,” someone else believed.
“I personally hate st Moriz the tiger bread, the smell, the way it can just make you green if you’re not careful,” a beauty buff chimed in.
“I’ve switched to solait it’s too good!”

Superdrug Solait Self Tan Mousse Medium – £4.79 (was £5.99) – Buy Now
- Tester: Abby Wilson, Senior Fabulous Digital Writer
- Review: “This product give a very natural looking tan and if you wanted something a bit bolder, I’d suggest leaving it on longer or choosing a darker shade. I’m impressed with the results, but now my entire room stinks of the stuff. If you’re on a budget and want a tan for last-minute plans, I would say this is one to try. “
bBold Dream Mousse Tan in Dark – £9.50 – Buy Now
- Tester: Josie O’Brien, Senior Fabulous Digital Writer
- Review: “The first thing that hit me about this tan was the “juicy watermelon” scent – it’s delicious. I was left with a natural bronze hue rather than orange glow. My only qualm is that the tan seemed to stick to my dry patches and accentuated ‘strawberry skin’ on my legs. I’m still adding this tan to my arsenal though – the smell, colour and texture are dreamy.”
St Moriz Professional Medium Tanning Mousse – £4.99 – Buy Now
- Tester: Kate Kulniece, Fabulous Writer
- Review: “Not only does St. Moriz mousse leave you with a gorgeous bronzed glow, but it also smells fabulous – think Piña Colada on a sunny beach. At first, I was a little bit sceptical cause I’m a gradual fake tan girlie, but this quick developing St. Moriz number may change it all.”
