Is the inside of NeeDoh edible? Viral claim explained as many start eating their toy

Is the inside of NeeDoh edible is the new concern of many parents. In the viral new trend, many internet users are seen cutting open their NeeDoh toys and eating the inside part, with many on TikTok and Instagram claiming that the inside of the toys is made of sugar or at least something sweet.

So why is the inside of NeeDoh sweet? The company has mentioned in their FAQs that the inside of the Nice Cube, which is going viral for being sweet, is made completely of maltose, which is melted sugar. NeeDoh’s other color-changing items include nontoxic water-soluble dyes.

This has led many to wonder: Is the inside of NeeDoh edible, considering it’s made of maltose? However, the company has not mentioned anywhere that it’s edible and safe to eat. Additionally, since it is made of TPR on the outside, it is not meant to be eaten, making the toys non-edible as a whole.

Is the inside of NeeDoh edible? Let’s have a look.

On Schylling, the company that manufactures NeeDoh’s FAQ page, the company has clearly mentioned that the NeeDoh toys are made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on the inside and thermoplastic rubber (TPR) on the outside. The company also said it uses polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is used as a coating in medicines and dietary supplements.

So is the inside of NeeDoh sugar? The company’s FAQ section notes that its inside is made of melted sugar or maltose, which is edible. But the question still remains: is the inside of NeeDoh edible? While the toys are considered safe to play with, considering they are tested to meet the safety standards and are also non-toxic, the company doesn’t mention them as edible.

Also, even if some of the ingredients used in making the toys seem food-related, the toy itself is not designed to be eaten.

Speaking of NeeDoh toys, Paul Weingard, the CEO of Schylling, called them small, easy-to-carry sensory items that are enjoyable to hold when talking to Parade. Talking about what goes inside the NeeDoh toys, he said that the toys are made of non-toxic materials that are safe, and each toy clearly shows what it is filled with on its packaging.

Weingard revealed that, as for the main filing, they use maltose. Another commonly used ingredient in the toy is PVA, a soft, safe material that’s also found in things like glue and cosmetics. One more ingredient is cornstarch, which is used in Snowball Crunch to give it a textured feeling.

Weingard also reflected on the viral trends of people cutting the toys on social media to find out what’s inside. Speaking about it, he said he doesn’t support it, adding:

“But you know, you can’t stop people from being curious about what’s inside.”

When you visit NeeDoh’s website, it also mentions that they are not supposed to be frozen, microwaved, or heated, as that might cause harm. Additionally, it also clearly mentions that these are sensory toys, which means they are for external play, and does not mention them as edible.

So if you’re still wondering, is the inside of NeeDoh edible, the answer is no, as the company has not labeled it as edible.

Because of its popularity, NeeDoh also faced a shortage of products last month, after which they released a statement requesting their consumers to only purchase their toys from the trusted platforms or in-store instead of from third-party sellers.
