Is Gina Carano back in Star Wars? Here’s what the actor revealed ahead of Netflix fight with Ronda Rousey

It seems that Gina Carano might return to the Star Wars franchise after her firing in 2021. As of now it is unclear if she is returning for sure or not, but it will not be surprising if she reprises her role of Cara Dune in the Galaxy Far Far Away. It should be noted that the wrestler turned actor settled the lawsuit with Disney last August for her firing in 2021.

A Lucasfilm representative had released the following statement to Variety after the settlement last August:

“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”

Gina Carano’s Star Wars firing explained:

Back in February 11, 2021, Lucasfilm officially fired the actress from the franchise in response to social media posts that were spreading misinformation about vaccines and her conservative-leaning political opinions. Given the still divided political climate in the United States at that time and the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, people found her political opinions inflamatory.

At the time of the firing, Lucasfilm released the statement:

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.”

Now, five years later, it seems that Carano may return to the franchise after settling the lawsuit. During her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gina Carano revealed that she had a Zoom call with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau:

“I think it was, ‘Let’s touch base. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni were two people that I always respected, and we went through two seasons together, and we had a great relationship. And even during everything that was happening, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau were never the bad guys to me.”

However, when the THR reporter asked Carano if that conversation invovled a possible return to the Star Wars franchise, the actress simply said:

“I won’t really disclose any of that, but I will say that for me, it was an important conversation. To Zoom, to see each other, to mend whatever, to make sure everybody was good. And everybody was good.”

Therefore, as of now, it is unclear if she is indeed returning to the Star Wars franchise. However, some fans are hoping that the upcoming Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will include a shout out to her character, Cara Dune, setting up her return.

“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.”

Meanwhile, Carano will be next seen on the much hyped fight with Ronda Rousey on May 16, 2026, which will be exclusively available on Netflix.
