Is General Hospital’s Most Famous Hitman About to Hang Up His Gun?

General Hospital’s Jason has been through quite an ordeal the last few months, being locked away in a WSB prison and kept from his family. Before he was even arrested, Jason had been undergoing quite a change. He even hesitated when he was perched on that roof with his gun trained on Cullum, which is part of how he ended up in this mess, to begin with. Is that a sign of things to come once Jason is back on July 13th?

According to Soap Opera Digest, Jason (Steve Burton) has had a lot of time to reflect during his time away and returns to his former life ready to make some chages.

“His imprisonment has had a profound effect on his outlook, and how he intends to conduct the rest of his life,” Head Writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris van Etten told Digest. “His decision will have big implications for Danny, Britt, the Quartermaines, Anna, and especially Sonny.”

Sonny (Maurice Benard) has been relying on Jason as his right-hand man for decades (in between Jason’s presumed-dead stints), but during Jason’s time in international prison, Sonny has been putting more faith in Ric (Rick Hearst) and Ethan (Nathan Dean), who have been pretty much groomed to take over Jason’s job in Sonny’s orgnanization.

Early in 2025, Jason and Sonny had even talked about retiring, but it never happened because they were trying to get to the bottom of who firebombed Sonny’s penthouse. It look like they are about to bring the culprits (Cullum and Sidwell?) to justice, but we can see Sonny coming up with another excuse to remain a mobster. Jason may be a different story.

The Foreshadowing Was There

Even before Jason froze on the roof and didn’t kill Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), it was clear that Jason had been questioning his life choices. The the moment he chose Monica’s happiness with Wiley and Amelia over Sonny’s demands seemed to be the beginning of the end of Jason’s undying loyalty.

While Jason prepared his gun before climbing onto the roof, he also thought of Monica and paused. But he climbed up there anyone, couldn’t bring himself to pull the trigger, then ended up in jail that night because he froze.

With Jason returning to GH and Port Charles next month ready to change his life, we think it’s a pretty good bet that Jason Quartermorgan is coming home and not Jason Morgan.
