Is General Hospital’s Maxie right to draw a hard line with Lulu?

General Hospital‘s Maxie didn’t respond the way that Lulu had hoped when she came clean about her feelings for Nathan, the man Maxie once loved. Sure, Maxie decided to be with Spinelli, not her back-from-the-dead husband. But that didn’t mean she was okay with her bestie and Nathan seeing each other. Is Maxie justified in feeling this way?

On General Hospital, friendship has its limits

Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) reaction may sound harsh on paper, but it didn’t come from out of nowhere. Lulu (Alexa Havins) wasn’t just confessing to a casual crush. She was admitting that she and Nathan (Ryan Paevey) had emotionally crossed into something deeper while Maxie was comatose.

In Port Charles, relationships shift constantly, but friendships carry their own unwritten rules. Dating a best friend’s former spouse sits pretty high on the list of things most people would rather avoid.

Maxie’s line wasn’t about controlling Nathan’s life. She acknowledged that part clearly. What she rejected was the idea that her closest friend could step into that space and expect it to be accepted without consequences.

Lulu’s honesty complicates things

To Lulu’s credit, she didn’t hide what happened. She told Maxie directly, even though she knew the conversation could destroy their friendship. In her mind, honesty was the respectful choice. However, her honesty doesn’t erase any history as her friendship with Maxie goes back years, through romances, breakups, marriages, and raising kids. That kind of bond creates expectations that are hard to rewrite overnight.

The scene left both women standing on opposite sides of the same emotional truth. Lulu believed she was doing the right thing by confessing everything to Maxie. Maxie believed some lines shouldn’t be crossed in the first place.

Maxie’s reaction wasn’t about jealousy, but loyalty. Whether Maxie’s boundary is fair or impossible may depend on how viewers see the situation. But one thing is clear after that conversation. In a town where relationships constantly reshuffle, friendship might still be the one rule Maxie refuses to bend.

Lulu presented the situation to Maxie as honestly as she could — she and Nathan fell for each other. So the question remains: Is Maxie being unfair… or did Lulu cross a friendship line that can’t easily be uncrossed?

General Hospital is available on ABC and Hulu.
