At the end of I Will Find You, David is finally able to rescue Matthew. The series has a happy note. However, it is not just the reunion of Matthew with his mother that tugs at the hearts of the viewers, but also the depiction of Rachel and David’s growing bond. In the end, Rachel and David are shown to be holding hands. Britt Lower notes that she “loved how quiet that moment was”.

It cannot be denied that David and Rachel have been through a tough time during their search for Matthews. David had lost all hope and was in prison for years for a crime that he did not commit. It was Rachel who suddenly arrived to meet him in prison and changed the trajectory of the storyline.

After Rachel finds a picture where a young boy resembling Matthew can be seen in a picture, she begins to wonder if Matthew is still alive, even though all the evidence that was found at the brutal crime scene pointed otherwise. Facing showers of bullets, getting captured, tortured, and facing numerous other dangers does not stop the two of them from finding the truth.

Though the storyline focuses on David, Rachel’s contribution is equally significant, considering the lengths she went to bring justice to David. They understood what each of them went through. Their “connection,” according to Britt Lower, “felt stronger than any kind of romance”.

The way the two of them subtly hold hands at the end of I Will Find You is a “gentle gesture of support”. Though many might have considered the scene to be a growth in the romance between David and Rachel, according to Britt Lower, there is “really no room for much romance,” considering the challenges that they faced.

Britt Lower also adds that both David and Rachel have a “shared loneliness and a belief in their family system”. This also acted as a propelling factor in the two of them joining hands to bring Matthew back. Hayden’s involvement in the whole situation is depicted in an impeccable manner in I Will Find You.

Hayden shows his support throughout. He gives David and Rachel a safe house while also hiding a dark secret from the two of them, which is eventually unveiled in the series. The manner in which Hayden manipulated the whole storyline just so he could stay close to Matthew leaves a lasting impact.

He does not even think twice before murdering his own mother when she tries to stop him. Sam Worthington brings life to the character of David in the series and does a remarkable job in depicting the emotional weight that David has because of his past.
