The Doomsday trailer is finally here, and it brings several heroes in the MCU together to face its latest supervillain, Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. The trailer was previously released at CinemaCon in April 2026, but it is now available for viewers. Doomsday is all set to hit the theatres on December 18, 2026.
The trailer features Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, who is blinded by the light of what seems like a collision between two universes. Amidst the chaos, we see Doctor Doom plotting his evil course of action. The camera pans to the Avengers Tower, while Thor speaks about the impending doom as he tries to unite the Wakandans, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and the Avengers. He says,
“Put aside your petty squabbles and presume nothing except this. If you return, you will return as brothers and sisters. But mark my words, we’re going to need a miracle.”
The trailer also features the reunion of Thor and Steve Rogers aka Captain America. Steve Rogers greets Thor, who is shocked to see him and says,
“It’s not possible”
Thor then extends his Mjolnir and Steve Rogers easily wields it, suggesting he is still young and firm. But how? Many fans have taken to Reddit to address the continuity error. However, many believe that those could be flashback sequences; others questioned whether the upcoming Marvel movie would break continuity.

Steve Rogers’ Doomsday role fits the Endgame narrative
Steve Rogers travelled back in time to complete his Infinity Stones mission, where he reunited with Peggy Carter. He returned to the present timeline as an old man, where he passed on the Captain America shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson.
The ending scene teased that he reunited with the love of his life, Peggy Carter. Since Doomsday is the sequel to the 2019 movie, many thought that if Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers returned, viewers might get to see an older version of him. However, that does not appear to be the case with Doomsday.
Despite passing his Captain America shield to Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame, Rogers appears in Avengers: Doomsday to seemingly assist his fellow Avengers in their latest battle against Doctor Doom.
Thor gets shocked to see the former World War II hero back; he proves that he is not an imposter by wielding Thor’s hammer with ease and a playful smirk. He appears younger because he might have time-travelled or could be a version of Steve from another point in the timeline. The questions about Steve’s confusing timeline are yet to be explained.
However, Endgame explained that time travelling creates branching realities instead of altering the main timeline. This led to several queries about how Steve appeared as an old man in Endgame. Doomsday could explain what happened to Steve after the Infinity Stones mission.
However, it leaves us with another mystery: what happened to the elderly Steve Rogers seen at the end of Endgame?
Steve Rogers may play a pivotal role in Doomsday
Chris Evans’ role as Steve Rogers in Doomsday may not be limited to a cameo appearance. Although Marvel Studios has not confirmed the extent of his role yet, his appearance in the trailer and at CinemaCon, aside from Robert Downey Jr. and the directors, fueled speculation that he could have a pivotal role to play. Steve Rogers might be one of the important heroes in their battle against Doctor Doom.
As per the alleged leaks discussed by YouTuber John Campea, Steve’s decision to stay back in the past timeline might have triggered a multiverse crisis, eventually leading to chaos.
According to the unconfirmed theory, Doom believes Steve’s action has led him to perform dangerous experiments, which have caused his family’s death. As revenge, Doom apparently targeted Steve’s son. Whether the theories turn out to be true or not, one thing is clear: Steve Rogers’ timeline remains a mystery as of now.
