According to recent news reports, actress Christina Ricci’s ex-husband James Heerdegen was denied emergency custody of their 11-year-old son Freddie. This happens after Heerdegen stated that their son texted him while traveling with Ricci, claiming that his mother was consuming alcohol.
Later on, Freddie said that he had “overreacted” and had no fear of being in his mother’s care.
Christina Ricci is the mother of two children. Her elder son Freddie Heerdegen was born in 2014 while her younger daughter Cleopatra was born in 2021.
Christina Ricci’s ex-husband filed for emergency custody
According to court records that People was able to access, the 43-year-old ex-husband of the Yellowjackets star requested an emergency custody hearing after receiving a text from his 11-year-old son Freddie claiming that Ricci had consumed alcohol during a flight to Canada on June 16.
According to Christina Ricci’s reaction, Freddie did get in touch with Heerdegen, claiming that she had used “certain words” to describe how his mother drank and behaved afterward.
But according to the records, Freddie’s lawyers had a direct conversation with him regarding the incident on June 18. Freddie claimed that he had “overreacted” when writing those texts, that Ricci had not behaved as he had claimed, and that he was not afraid to be in her primary physical care.
Citing bullying her son had experienced at school, Christina Ricci asked that records containing the texts between Freddie and his father be sealed. The actress implied that Freddie would relive that incident, which “may jeopardize” his mental health, if the documents were made public.
The texts were sealed once the judge gave its approval. Heerdegen’s order for emergency custody was also rejected.

According to court records that People was able to obtain at the time, the actress accused Heerdegen of physical abuse and got a domestic violence restraining order against him in January 2021. According to Ricci’s filing, Heerdegen subjected her to “severe physical and emotional abuse” and “many of these acts of abuse” occurred in front of their kid.
