All criminal charges against Roger Nores concerning the death of Liam Payne have been dropped, as per reports from the New York Post.
The former One Direction member first met the Argentine energy businessman at a dinner hosted by Edward Enninful, who was formerly the editor of British Vogue, in his London residence. Per a Page Six report, the two quickly hit it off.
Following Liam Payne’s death in October 2024 at the age of 31 after falling from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Roger Nores became a person of interest in the investigation into the singer’s death.

This was because Argentine prosecutors alleged he was Liam Payne’s primary companion and had “abandoned” the singer while aware of his severe addictions.
Per the court documents, investigators examined Roger Nores’ electronic devices after finding a message on Liam Payne’s phone requesting “six grams.” The records indicate Roger Nores did not respond to the message.
Roger Nores’ lawyer speaks out after energy entrepreneur gets cleared of charges
A panel of three judges upheld the decision clearing the energy executive, ruling that the late singer independently chose to use drugs and that Roger Nores was not legally responsible for his actions. Prosecutors are not appealing the ruling.
Roger Nores’ attorney, Rafael CĂșneo Libarona, told the outlet:
“There is no chance that Nores will be brought back into the case. The court was clear in its ruling that cleared him of any criminal wrongdoing. Roger never had the duty of caring for Payne, much less caring for his addictions. He was not Liam’s guarantor. He was his friend, not his physician, nurse, or therapist.”
While Roger Nores is no longer facing charges, the investigation remains active for two other defendants.
Restaurant waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz, 26, and hotel employee Ezequiel David Pereyra, 22, are accused of supplying cocaine to Payne. Both men spent more than a year in custody before being released in March.
According to the report, prosecutors and defense attorneys have discussed a possible plea agreement that would reduce the alleged offense to supplying drugs without payment, which carries a maximum sentence of six months if accepted.

Payne died on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires.
A month after the tragedy, official autopsy determined that he suffered multiple traumatic injuries and internal and external hemorrhaging consistent with a great fall.
He was laid to rest on November 20, 2024.
